Here is my modified Mora 511 and sheath. First and foremost I want to say that I did NOT come up with this mod. I saw it on another forum, so I'm not taking credit for it. BUT here's my version. I took a Mora 511, cut the guard off, and modified the sheath to take a firesteel. The LMF Army model snaps securely into place there, but I keep the LMF Scout in it now, because I wear it in the field as a neck knife, and any weight savings helps. So far, I'm loving this set up.

I've tried various methods of attaching a firesteel to my Mora's sheath, but I never like it, so it just stays on a paracord lanyard (large enough to go around the neck).
 
Looks great. If you take some bungie or shock cord, you can loop it around the sheath for more retention. Been doing that on my sharpshooter sheaths, but I loop it around the firesteel loop. Works great. But VERY creative mod you did there. Regardless if someone really came up with it. A link to the mod site would be GREAT.
 
Very slick! I ussaully just put mine under a a piece of inertube from a bike tire when I want to carry it on my 510.
 
I like it though wish there was some more detail on the sheath mod. A paracord wrap on the sheath would be kind of nice as well. I guess paracord is a bit like Jello, there is always room for more. :)

I wanted to ask you (or anyone reading this) about the grind on the Mora 510. The one in your pics seems to have a wider, higher grind than the 510 I got recently, is this just due to your sharpening the knife, or do the newer 510's have a narrower grind? The 511's seem to "maybe" have a wider grind, and I have read on here they have a thicker grip, so I am going to get one to mod and try out. Love those Moras!

I noticed that, too, but my experience is that there is some variation on the grind by batches. A few hundred higher, a few hundred lower, and so forth. But they are all within a few millimeters of one another.

Blade thickness dropped on the new generation of 510/511 from .098" to .079" - so the same grind angle doesn't look the same.
