Got my box from Sportsman's Guide today. 3 Frost's Moras. Count 'em :D

Well, upon close inspection, one was more polished and shinier than the other 2?

Huh?
I got 2 stamped "high carbon" , and the other stamped "Stainless Steel". crazy.

Go figure???? I don't mind, heck, I can compare the two for performance and ease of sharpening, etc.

very weird. :p

YAAAARRRGH!!! that is what I was afraid of! I ordered one this past weekend believing that it was carbon steel. The package should be on my doorstep when I get home tonight. I WANTED A CARBON STEEL BLADE!!! I should have known something was up when they dropped 'carbon steel' from the description in my latest catalog.

...But, if it happens to be SS, that's ok, too. I just prefer the carbon steel over the SS. And I have a number of SS Moras, besides...

I'll let you know in a litte while what I ended up with. Dollars to donuts that it will be a stainless steel model.

Never know, they may have a hodge-podge of them. Identical handle and sheath. They are probably mix n match lot.

They probably dropped the "Carbon steel" description after some complaints and after sifting through the batch they got.

Coldwood got 2 out of 2 Carbons, I got 2 out of 3 carbons...So it looks like they have "mostly" carbons?
note: IF anyone else got Mora's from Sportsmans Guide, please report what type it was.

I will tell you this, the SS are very nice. And very sharp.
SS are sharper than the carbon steels, for sure.

OK, I'm going to give one of these a Bluing treatment. Will report back soon.

I got one of the SG Mora's (through a friend who bought a number of them, SG wouldn't ship to CT) and it's a carbon. The others were carbon too.

Hikeeba is checking in with a high CARBON blade! w00t!

Good deal...wow, I didn't realize you were expecting yours so soon.

Looks like most are Carbon. With an errant SS thrown in.
Like I said, I don't mind getting 1 SS, as long as i got the other carbons.

I got pics soon...stand by. Sorry the pics are crappy. Will try again later.
I have one of the carbons lightly blued, looks pretty good.

i have a red and black clipper with black plastic sheath 4 incher in carbon if you want to trade hikeeba just let me no i live in washington and do alot of kiyaking and like the stainless i have a blue and black one its in stainless and like it

Yep. SG is more or less next door. If I order on the weekend, the items usually ship on Monday and arrive on Tuesday. Internet orders also upgrade shipping a notch. SG is good like that. It's always a pleasure to order from the Guide!

Alright! Congratulations to everybody! Sounds like another Christmas...I think we have enough Mora owners to start another forum :)

I have both carbon and stainless Mora's. I like them both. The SS blades hold up better in rainy season. They stay wet the entire time. The carbon blades do start to rust up when they are wet constantly. The carbon blades take a better edge and stay sharper.

Granted, you should be able to know what you're buying beforehand, but having both isn't a bad deal at all. Mac

Coldwood, I used BirchwoodCasey "Super Blue" on one of the carbon steel blades. man, it looks nice. Wipe on wait 30 seconds, rinse in water and wipe off. Did this 3 times, then gave it a buff.
It gave it a nice bluish lustre.

Will be "sneakin" it to work tomorrow, and trying various patterns for the kydex sheaths. Oh yeah, the size of these knives make them perfect for fixed blade utility EDC.
Hmmm, maybe an "inside the pants" sheath, with the clip to the outside, shirt pulled down over it , no one would know.

I remember reading somewhere that the stainless Mora knives differ from the carbon ones only in that the soft outer layers are 18-8 stainless rather than mild steel, and the same high carbon middle layer is common to them all. I may very well be mistaken, anybody got any more specific info?
Edited to add- I did a little research and it appears I either misunderstood or got bad info. The inner layer of the stainless Moras is indeed stainless. Sorry for any confusion.

Thanks for the offer nitestocker. But I, too, have stainless steel Moras in addition to a few other carbon steelies. I carry a Frosts 5.75" stainless steel Sport Fishing knife (#756 on Ragnar's site) in the back pouch of my PFD.

Carbon steel or stainless steel, I don't think you can go wrong with any of the Mora knives. They offer so much bang for the buck.

The knife on the left shoulder is a Benchmade 100SBT River/Rescue knife. It is the all black partially serrated model. I may be mistaken, but I believe it is the first generation version of the River Rescue knife. I really wish I could have purchased the plain edge version, too. It is a really handy little knife.

Agreed:thumbup:   Not that it's needed, but maybe we could start a sticky...... "show off your Moras":D .

Ya, Hikeeba, Its a great looking knife, I just wanted to know what it was so I can look for it :D

Skunk, I darkened one blade with the mustard/onion trick, it came out pretty good. I also have a bottle of Brownells Dicropan T-4 Touch-Up bluing, I'm going to try that over it to see if I get a more dramatic effect.

Hikeeba, I'm curious: if that pouch is on the back of your PFD, how do you get at it if you're in the water? I would think a front pouch would be better. I think a pouch is a great idea, I've got a 12' rowboat that I capsized once and I wear a PFD all the time.
