Hey guys. I'm looking to get my first Mora (I know) and the model that I'm looking at comes in carbon, or for a couple of bucks more, their laminated steel. They also have interesting knives in (differentialy heat treated) Triflex steel.

The knife will be used for light camping duty, as a Sloyd with lots of wood carving in its future.

Anyone have experience with all of these steels? Thoughts on any of them are welcome. I prefer the seller that sells the carbon version over the laminate, but if it's worth the hassle, I could go that way.

Thanks!

Yes I use them all and they are all very good, but most often I give them a micro convex edge in order to manage hardwood.

The laminated blades has a core of Swedish O1 steel at hrc61 and they stay sharp longer than the others.
The Triflex is also very good and differs from the regular carbonsteel in that the outsides are tempered softer than the center/edge.
For most work the regular carbonsteel is a perfect workhorse.

My personal favorite is the laminated steel and that's what I carry daily at work at the moment.

Mikael

The laminated steel (Classic Original 1 and 2) makes splendid cutters with a very long lasting edge. However, the high hardness and the very thin scandi edge can lead to microcospic damage to the very edge. Nothing to be worried about, a quick sharpening evens it out. I imagine the Triflex is the next step and it may take care of this issue. The Moras come at such an affordable price that it is really worth the money to give them a run. I love my Classics and unfortunately they are discontinued. Hope Triflex does it.

Thanks guys. The one I'm looking at (2/0) has a 3" blade, and seems perfect for my needs. I'm thinking that I should just buy from ebay to get the laminated version. Like I said, I'd prefer not to, but the other place only has it in carbon. The price difference is negligible.
