I am browsing for a new Mora, and stumble upon Karesuando kniven. i have never held one before, and dont know anybody who have used one. Can someone give me some suggestion.
You see, Mora is cheap runs about $10 and up. while Karesuando runs at $100 and up. but Karesuando blanks is only about $20. i plan to buy blanks and save money by making my own handle and sheath.

but if the quality is only on par with Mora. why bother..

Karesuando makes good knives, they have nicer handle materials and sheaths than Mora of Sweden knives (most of them, at least). I don't think you'll find a huge performance difference, but they are typically better finished (which you would expect given the huge price difference). The steels they use are pretty much the same.

I've been using a Karesuando stainless blade on an almost daily basis for a few years and I'm quite happy with it.

If what you're looking for is a basic working knife and don't want to spend much, go with Mora of Sweden. However, if you want prettier handles and sheaths in the Scandi tradition, then you'll be happy with Karesuando (or Helle, etc.).

The blade blanks are a good deal. They come nicely polished and sharpened. My EDC Karesuando was made from a blade blank, with a simple wood handle shaped to fit both my hand and my work pants pocket.

Dogstar: excuse me... i post it here because i dont think Mora is traditional in any way... after all, it got plastic handles...

FransiscoMv: in that case, i'm better off buying Mora's blank than karesuando? the price difference is almost 2 fold, and Mora's blade have a very nice finish imho. I am asking the same question in my knife group in facebook, and got a recommendation for Lauri, they said it's way better than Mora or Karesuando.. what do you think?
