Mora

Smoky mountain knife works. If you register with them , every so often they offer free shipping.

No, get the Mora. In fact, get 4 or 5 and then decide if you want to buy expensive knives. You probably will but the Mora is a step back that everybody should take. Then move forward. I have many knives but in any recitation of my favorites, at any point in time, I'll list a Mora. Right now, among many others, the Mora #1 Laminated is always a pleaser. My Mora bushcrafters are on my current hot list.

Get the Mora. Ragweed Forge is a great place to get Mora.

The companies in Mora also have factory outlets :D

I haven't shopped at Bens Backwoods, but am a repeat customer of Knifeworks, Ragweed Forge, and Smoky Mountain Knife Works. All three are reliable and honest.

I'd have to recommend against the MORA (unless your collecting), in favor of Benchmade 515 Rant; and the fine folks at knifeworks.

I'm sure the Benchmade 515 Rant is a perfectly good knife and probably good value at that price, BUT:
- Your post is probably if violation of the rules of this forum.
- I recently bought 3 Mora knives from Ragweed forge and they cost LESS than $55 even with the shipping. I don't think your suggestion is comparable. I paid $20 + $11 + $10 + shipping of $6 - $47 for 3 knives & shipping.

Agreed. The Benchmade Rant is a fine knife, and I consider Benchmade my "go to" when shopping for folders (and sometimes fixed blades). BUT! The OP asked about Mora, specifically - where to get them. He didn;t ask if there were "better" knives out there, or if Benchmade was "better". Heck, for all we know, the OP could have an entire collection of BM Rants, 201s, Nimravii, BRKTs, Falknivens, customs, and other "fine" knives.

I usually buy from Ragweed and from 3 to 5 at a time. There is virtually no single place (including in the bathroom if you're so inclined!) that doesn;t benefit from having a Mora 510 or one of the Clippers around. There's one in every pack, in my truck and wife's car, in the shop, in the kitchen drawer (two of them, in fact), in my desk at work, even one that hangs outside on a post of the chicken's fence. They're one of the most useful blades anyone can have...I think. I've given at least 6 of them away, and just recently, my sis-in-law was telling me over the phone how useful that "little red plastic knife" is that I gave them. I said I'd be sending another couple to her before long.

I like the blade shape of that Benchmade. But the black plastic, meh, I've had enough of it. If they'd offer a full tang version with wood handles for $55 I'd be all over it. :D

Useful for many reasons! One reason is the price, you don't spent under $20 on a knife then decide it is too nice to use - you just take that knife and cut stuff as required! Also the sharpness is impressive - I give a quick strop to make a VERY sharp micro-bevel and slice stuff so easily! The scandi grind works really well on wood - great for bushcraft tasks.

On my recent order from Ragweed forge I got a HighQ Allround Carbon for $10 and a HighQ Allround Stainless for $11 - they have comfortable handles and nice sharp usable blades. It's hard to find better knives for less money than that! I can use the carbon model to carve, whittle, make fuzz sticks, make traps, sharpen up tent pegs or stakes, etc and use the stainless one (that is still clean & sharp) for food prep. These are great bushcraft/camping knives that just work, the fact that they cost very little is just a bonus. The HighQ Allround knives also have fairly long tangs (around 2/3rds of the way into the handles) for good durability. I wouldn't use them for chopping and I prefer big tough knives for batoning - but for normal knife tasks these knives perform really well.

Most guys on this forum have many knives but sometimes that nice Damascus steel knife that you paid a few hundred for doesn't seem like the best choice and you may prefer to use the $10 beater that cuts really well. Or you have someone wanting to borrow a knife and you prefer to lend something that wont pain you to replace when the retard* does something stupid!

* Retard - someone not smart enough to carry their own knife, then realises that they need one and asks to borrow yours.

Ragweed Forge would be my first stop when looking for Mora knives. I haven't dealt with Ben's Backwoods, but they have a good reputation.

FYI, I would rather have a Mora Clipper or Eriksson that the Benchmade Rant. I find the slimmer blade more useful for everyday tasks.

Did you get your MORA?

I did state "(unless your collecting)"!

Having owned MANY MORA's, it was my suggestion that the OP not overlook a more suitable choice, IMO.

I'm not sure how 'unless your collecting' really makes any difference - the OP never asked about good choices instead of a Mora and nor did anyone else in this thread. I just don't see why you figured that this would be a great place to promote a Benchmade on special at a particular knife vendors online store - your post just didn't strike me as appropriate for this thread.

If the OP is on a tight budget and someone suggested that a Mora was a good choice because he could get one for under twenty bucks shipped then someone piping up with "buy this instead" and providing a link to a knife that would cost maybe 4x as much with shipping would really not be helpful for them. There are many reasons why someone may prefer to buy a Mora over the Benchmade, so when they create a thread to ask where to buy a Mora it just isn't the right place to say "spend $55 + shipping on a benchmade instead".

Not to "beat a dead horse", Schpankme, but collecting and suitability wasn't the OPs concern, judging by his post. He wanted to know where to get a Mora. I can;t boil it down any further than he did.

Often a guy says "I've boiled it down to these two knives. What do you guys think?" You can bet your paycheck at least one member will offer a third choice for him. The guy isn;t helping, he's just blathering.

Get a Sebenza! :barf:

I wish I could get paid a royalty for every time somebody did the very thing you described. A nickel for every time somebody recommended a Sebenza could probably buy my lunch for a month!
