Morakniv Grind

The only complaint I’ve heard about the Garberg grind is that instead of being a true scandi all the way to the edge, it has a small micro-bevel. Some feel this distracts from performance and work to sharpen it away. Is this what you've seen or something else?

I tried watching the video. After under 2 minutes, I decided the dud has no credibility, and turned it/him off.
Complaining the spine "has a rounded edge and won't work with a ferro rod ..."
I wonder if that dud has ever heard of a "flint and steel" or a "lighter"?
Both and/or either will start a fire easier than an cursed ferro rod.
"Bushcraft" does not have to mean difficult and primitive.

Why do people modify the grind on their Mora's? What's wrong with the grind?

Maybe nothing. Mora's don't cost much, so you can try different modifications without the worry of ruining a pricey knife.

I tried removing the micro bevel on a Mora, then decided I liked it better with the micro grind. So I put it back on. If it had been a pricey knife, I'd have been nervous about fussing with it.

If it's advertised as a scandi grind, some people would naturally expect a true scandi grind. I understand why you would want to modify it to get what you expect. To the poster above, a 90° spine throws sparks better than a rounded spine. A fero rod isn't the be all, end all in fire making, but it's a very good tool. People want to optimize their gear, especially when it comes to survival items. I don't see anything wrong with that.

Because they're ground too thick and don't slice very well, the steep cutting angle is unfavorable to some people.

The bevel on a Mora is not quite flat. It has an almost indiscernible hollow grind. Sometimes, to amuse myself at my desk, I will try to truly flatten it. Flattening the bevel may have a secondary effect of removing the micro-bevel, and giving me a true zero grind. I don’t mind. If I want the micro bevel back it is easy enough to get it.

While I am at it, I will round off the corner on the primary bevel. That may allow the knife to slice better through some materials. It certainly can’t hurt.
