Hi,

Just got myself a Schrade 108OT new in the blister pack. I thought I wanted a user, but now I'm not so sure I want to open it.

Am I an old fool for being concerned or not?

You'll never get rich selling it. The reason they are so treasured is, they're great users. Do it! :D

I know that I've never enjoyed *anything* as long as it was stuck inside a blister pack - blister packs are fundamentally one of the least enjoyable items in the universe -- get it out and enjoy it.

At Christmas my mother said to me, "You know, if you had saved all those Star Wars toys still in the package when you were a kid, they would be worth a fortune now."

It was a nice thought, but life is too short not to open your toys and play with them.

Dalee,
I go through that with every knife I buy - even the ones I buy thinking I won't go through that with! Sooner or later I open up everything...even those I buy thinking I'll keep new.

I don't think that makes me an old fool! On the other hand, I may be the embodiment of an "old neurotic."

If it were mine, I'd open it.

Hi,

Well you guys pushed me over. I opened it and I'm glad I did. The blister pack didn't fit well in my pocket.:D

I did take a couple of photos with it in the packaging. Just to remember that I got it shiny new. Just needs a sharpening and it'll be good to go. Am I the only one to get Schrades' dull knives?

Thanks,
dalee

I found a Case peanut long tail c tang stamp era 1920-40 in an antique shop for $26. There was a pretty big rust spot that pitted the blade. I thought to myself, if it was too pretty, I would not carry it. I have it in my pocket right now, sharpened up real nice! Open that package, and carry the knife. You will not regret it. Make that knife a legacy for your children, not a hermetically sealed sterile chunk of metal and delrin.

Then there are those that should remain sealed...

And Shrades, as much as they are coveted now, were never collectors knives, they were users. I say open it and use it, that's what it was made for. Treat it good, treasure it, but use it and enjoy it. That's my 2 cents anyway.

Swervin Ernie Irvan,
I would leave that one in the package as well. I loved watching him race. I gifted a Vote for Ross Perot knife to my boss. He told me he collected advertising knives, so I found him that one.

I have never had any of the earlier ones come from the factory dull.

I'm sure they were no different than any other company though, and had a few slip through the cracks.

knife is ment to use. Using a good knife is priceless. Open it, use it, be happy ^^

Sharp Phil: Yeah, your mother is right but still, the joy they gave you when you were child is priceless too.

Amen brother. Open the package!
