Here's an ebay auction of a nice old Moran dagger I thought some here might find interesting.

Link removed. Please do not link to active eBay auctions.

I saw that yesterday. It will be interesting to see what the price does right before the auction closes:D I think 9 bidders had already signed on the first day.

Always amazes me that people will start bidding on something with 6 days left in an auction. I'm all for getting top dollar, but what is the motivation of a buyer to show the world they are interested in something? Do they WANT to pay top dollar?

I have been trying to figure out how much to sell one of my Morans for, and the best I can come up with is that it is anyone's guess. I think the same applies to this dagger. Then, when you factor in some of the condition problems the blade itself has, who knows. It'll be REAL interesting to see the result of this auction.

I was unaware of the rule against posting links to active eBay auctions. I found this in the FAQ section:

No auction spotting
We don't care if you have something on ebay. Post a price and either raise or lower it.

It doesn't explain "why" and the wording is somewhat cofusing. Clearly it's seriously against the rules since an infraction point was 'awarded' to John, the OP.

Im sure its to avoid abuse. As soon as you let people post auctions, people would use this forum as an advertising avenue...it'd be nearly impossible to monitor who was creating profiles saying "check this out" and have it be their auction.

I could have sworn I saw this done a couple of months ago, but I guess I was mistaken. Any good lawyer will tell you that ignorance of the law is not an effective defense, but it is the only one I have!

I don't think anyone cares if people link to an auction that has already ended. You see that frequently.

It's not a very nice piece, IMHO. Yes, I know - it's a Moran.

If I were to sell a Moran, I would consign it with a good dealer. Yes, I'd have to pay 20% - 25%, but I think eBay is about the worst spot to sell a rare knife.

Your right Joss,it does'nt seem to be nearly as refined as I'm sure his newer stuff was, but I have never seen any pics of Scagel's that were really refined either, but both will always have the "historical" aspect to them, and will continue to bring big $$$$.

i know it's about knife history, but heck, that finish is sub-zero...

mr moran made much nicer knives than that one.
