A friend of mine has the Moran drop point and really likes it. Because it has one of the best carry systems of any factory knife, he would like to use it as a river knife for rafting/canoeing. However, he would like a lanyard for working over water. He has a couple questions on which we could use your help. First, was there a reason Spyderco didn't install a lanyard hole during production? Second, is the FRN handle solid---so there would be no downside in him drilling his own hole (we assume it is solid)? Lastly, how far from the tail end of the handle does the tang terminate? If he drills his own hole, it would be easier to drill through FRN without having to go through the VG-10 tang.

Thanks very much for any assistance you all can offer!

"Bartman - Shouldn't be a problem. Stay to the back 1-1/2". The handle is Grivory. Should drill OK. Try not to drill between the hard and soft plastic. You may need to chamfer the hole as these hi tech plastics can be sharp and you wouldn't want to cut the lanyard. Let me know how she goes.

That was Sal's reply to the same question on 4/1/1999

(course that was April Fool's Day)

Thanks Chinook!

I probably should have realized that this would have come up before and checked the archives. However, I don't feel TOO bad because it has been 2 1/2 years.

We be drilling tomorrow!
