Ya'know, with all the excvitement over the Moran model, I'm thinking we should have a seperate organization for all of us. Bob,aka, Bald1, could be our president or grand poobah and lead us in weekly storytelling anthems re: the revered blade. This is only partly in jest as I'm now owner of two and I'm probably not the only one (not counting Bob).
Well ?

Brian,

That's rich

!!! ROTFLMAO Me? A grand poohbah? Maybe a big teddy bear but no grand anything.

All kidding aside, I too have noticed that several folks have bought "spares". Now that you've asked the question, I'm kinda curious too as to who else has gone that route.

I am picking up my second today and am already thinking (serious) about a third.

Brian,

I'm in, I will be happy to coordinate the Antipodean Chapter and I can't think of anybody more suitable for Grand Poobah than the Mighty Bald1, the Prophet of the Moran.

I've been thinking about a spare. If I use the knife more after I get my slip-sheath from EdgeWorks (thanks again Bob) I will get one.

Tell us of the mighty blade of Moran, oh most respected hairless one.

Bob -

I now have a spare, plus both Edgeworks sheaths for my use. I also picked up a Moran and slip sheath for a one of my buddies who doesn't get around the net and therefore has no idea how to acquire such wonderful equipment for the right price

I can only afford one right now (Thanks James Mattis!). It should arrive soon. I should be able to afford the Society dues though!

But I _plan_ on getting another one for myself, and I may get one for my older brother before I get my second. So that would be three, eventually.

Yeah...I'm gonna get a spare 'cause I want to work the one I have now, hard this spring and summer when the trails thaw.

BTW, the Egeworks tactical sheath is one nice piece of gear. I highly recommen all Moranians pick one up.

Taking a cue from Brian, I will briefly recount a few "items of note" that we've picked up since acquiring my first Spydie Moran last June-July:

- Frank Norman has used it to clean fish (pix on his website)
- Will Fennell has used one in the field on game (I believe a deer).
- Art Aplan, a LEO, carries his in uniform
- My Son packs his in a rear of the back carry under his BDUs when not in the field. When deployed or in field operations he carries his inverted on his chest.
- I carry mine at work hidden nicely in my front right pocket's slip sheath
- Agreeing with Frank Norman, we both have 'em in our kitchen butcher blocks
- James Mattis is bundling the Moran with Edge-Works sheaths
- Lots of folks are getting spares or giving Morans as gifts

- I've lost count of the e-mails I've gotten over the past months about this knife and the sheaths I had made for it. I've heard from all over the US including Alaska. And internationally from european countries, Israel, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa.

Folks... I've simply been amazed. Don't let anyone ever try to convince you that the power of a word or two on the InterNet doesn't amount to much. My desire to share my good fortune and experience with this blade and the Edge-Works sheaths reached far more folks than I ever imagined posssible. My involvement with Rob Simonich and the Talonite, as well as Will Fennell and his EDI Genesis I have also garnered their fair share of mail. Gene sederholm said it best: "Ain't this place GREAT"!!!

One may want to keep an Eye out for my review of the Bob Kasper designed, Kevin Gentile modified AFCK and interview of Bob Kasper. Sorry about the wait, my review and interview should be online shortly, luckily Spark has graciously offered to do the pictures, look for it right here at BladeForums.com.

David,

Welcome to the club. The more I use my Moran the more I like it. I bought my slip sheath directly from Scott at Edge Works. At that time he had just finished a run and still had some stock left, so I didn't have to wait long (except for the interminable wait for the mail

). The slip sheath adds considerably to the usefulness of the knife, I've got it stuck in the waistband of my shorts as I type this.

Is it a compound in the Kydex that causes the scrathes people mention....or is it just because Kydex is relatively hard.....or any grit that gets in gets between the Kydex and the knife?

Is Concealex significantly different?

I have a Moran on order....it is about the only knife about which I have never seen any complaint...

MORAN the BARBARIAN

Not to make fun of the Moran, I am sure that it is a wonderful knife but everytime I see the name I unconciously substitute it with Moron or Mormon.

It has been kinda funny because it has contorted my mind kinda like putting "in bed" at the end of all the messages from your fortune cookies...

"The Moron club."
"I love my Mormon"
"The Moron is sharp!"
"I want a kydex sheath for my Mormon"

Maybe spyderco should release a Moron edition that is super dull?

Ok enough of my poking fun... Probrably not the best place to do it either... humm... Be nice guys, I'm just a college student

Well,

I have my second Moran and sheath coming shortly, very cool.

Now I shall be looking for another.

I think 5 should be enough spares...

Gents,
Check out the new thread frank Norman started. Sal has confirmed that the Moran is about to undergo changes as part of an effort to reduce production costs. The Moran edge will go and be replaced by a flat grind. Likewise the mirror polish to be replaced by satin. The leather sheath will be replaced by a kydex version. VG-10 will still be used.
If you want spares, buy them now. The newer version will undoubtedly be nice and reflect Spyderco's quality but I know I'll miss the Moran edge and mirror finish.

Jeeze...
Great chance to spring the new knife purchase on the unsuspecting wife. We will have to go to a 100 yr B-day party of an obscure relative in the north of here, not far from a fav salmon river in early May.
"Well, dear, then maybe I can try out this new little knife I got on ebay."
"New knife? Let me see that. Hmmm, you get this shiney sharp sparkler and I have to slave in the camp kitchen with that ancient blade-trader contraption?"
"Butt, dear, I'm the provider, the salmon killer, the bacon-bringer-homer."
"You gut and and gill 'em butt I slice, dice, steak, filet, chunk, spread and prepare 'em. And the leather sheath matches my boots."

"Yes dear"

Hmmm.... Now do I wait for the new model Moran or try to sneak in another of the old?
