does any one know where to buy the moran silver wire inlay video that he made ...thanks greg zechman

Can't help you with the video, however I watched a gentlemen do beautiful wire inlay on a wooden sheath last fall out back of the ABS school. He is truly a master. Can't remember his name. Perhaps one of the fellows who was there can help with that.
Both the knife and sheath were outstanding. Sometimes we don't truly appreciate the time and skill involved in an art until we see it done.

The "D" guard ABS Board Bowie that was auctioned off at Blade a few weeks ago was also an excellent example of silver inlay.

went to blade show and saw mr hendrickson s wire inlay and thats how this all started ...i was amazed and cant stop thinking about it....thanks greg

Yes, Jay's the wire inlay man. Here's one I got recently.

Hello all. Kevin the man out back of the ABS school was probably Billy Hicks. He does some outstanding wire inlay and is a great person too. Amazing knowledge about a number of things. He lives in the area and comes by most of the hammer ins and classes.

If you want info on doing wire inlay you should contact Allen Eldridge. He taught a class in silver wire inlay at Jim Batson's symposiums for seven years. From what I understand there will be a couple of DVDs coming out next year that will be available at Center Cross Instructional Vidoes.

I can't recall a video from Bill Moran on silver wire inlay, though he did do one that included the making of handles. Maybe there was something in that video.

Joe Keeslar did the inlay on the board knife this year.

Best knife deal I ever scored. Found this on ebay and snagged it for $68.00. That's a back pocket sheath.

My only knife with wire inlay and it's a honey!

Nice knives, Coop & Kevin! Always like to see pictures in these threads.

I don't think Moran did a video (or even a chapter in a video) specifically about silver wire inlay. If he did it would be (as mentioned above by jjtjr) here: http://www.americanbladesmith.com/store/s-pages/ABS_SMainframe.htm The handles and guards video contents don't mention silver wire inlay per se. I've got that series at home and will check it out later. Would be nice if was included since it was a big part of his style.

He did many demos at hammer-ins over the years on this topic though. I had the pleasure of attending his silver wire inlay demo at the ABS Moran Hammer-In in Maryland a while back.

Moran taught several excellent bladesmiths his silver wire inlay technique who continue to vigorously pursue that style. In addition to the ones mentioned above I would add Mark Sentz, MS and Aubrey "Barney" Barns, MS as top tier smiths in the Moran style.

Here are two poor pictures of a nice example of Moran's silver wire inlay and signature handle style:

One thing some may not know is that Bill was greatly influenced in the development of this handle style by the fancy old pistol grips from the percussion era, especially fine European examples found in museums. Moran was particularly fond of museums that featured collections of that sort and he extensively studied such things. He had great respect for his predecessors who were so amazingly accomplished despite the lack of information and tools we have today - which is precisely how the quillon dagger came to be one or the requirements for the ABS Mastersmith rating.

So when you see one of his handles in this style, or one by those he mentored - think 'antique pistol grip' and it will make a lot more sense.

You have some real beauties Jim.

ST-24s are obviously at the top of all custom collectables, however that spearpoint is especially fine and interesting.
