I was sharpening my Eldris and got it pretty sharp but doesn’t feel as sharp as a new Eldris I have. I’m new to sharpening so I only have a cheap stone with a coarse and fine side (don’t know the grits) but after using that I ran it over the ceramic rod and then stropped it. Is it the microbevel on new Moras that make them feel so sharp?

The Eldirs has two grinds - or do you have the Eldris Light? That one is only a flat grind. Or are you talking about only the scandi part of it?

I am still wondering about sharpening Scandis on the Sharpmaker, I was told if you do it, you will essentially not keep the scandi grind over time. I do not know how "bad" occasional maintaining of my whittling knives on the Sharpmaker would be. Mora is what I mostly use to carve. Do you do it often?

It’s the light version. I have a new regular Eldris as a backup. I use the Sharpmaker but placing the bevel of the knife on the stone, not straight up and down like a full flat, and run it down. It actually does pretty well.

Oh, then that's why it is sharper, I think! The Light just has their version of the flat grind on it, right?

The light is a full scandi the whole length of the blade. The regular Eldris has the compound grind
