I'm curious to know what the handle wood in the 2007 Founders Edition's is. It looks alot different than the standard 110 (no black streaks) but it resembles the wood in the Alaskan Guide to me. The Ag has more of a reddish color where the Founders is more brown, but they look like the same stuff with a different stain.

Thanks Plum, I had asked that on the last thread late in the thread and didnt get and answer. It almost has a glitter quality to it when you move it. I really like the look of it-it gives the brass bolster a antiquie look.

I was wondering also. I read an ad for one and it said it was rosewood but I don't know for sure and can't find the ad now.

I've seen that said also, but I have a couple of knives with rosewood and these don't look the same. I'm hoping that Joe will pop in here and straighten me out on this.

Now you are going to make me get out the two I have still in the plastic and check them out, when I get home. I will have to look through the plastic because I don't think I will open them yet.

Does it look like maybe the same wood, just stained different colors?

Just looked at my two thru the plastic and I see what you mean about no dark streaks. The scales are a lot darker than the one standard 110 I have. Could be a darker stain but I think a different wood. Plumber, I think those are different woods. The grain is not the same.

I'm pretty sure it is rosewood, the same as the alaskan guide. I could be wrong of course, though. :)

I think the Walmart site stated Cherry wood back in 2007 when they were listed.....I have over 20 of them. Great knives !!!!

I think both. I think the darks streaks are how those woods respond to the stain on the standard 110. These look like different grain. My knife is more red like the lower knife and has a very fine gold flake quality-doesnt appear like the upper knife at all.

The process our handle guy uses employs layers of various types of woods, injected with hot colored resin and subjected to heavy pressure. I guess they have quite a few types of wood and they use whatever they need to get the color we want. Last time I checked they were using Obechee (spelled wrong I bet) as one of the wood choices.
