Everyone,

I posted here a couple weeks ago because I wanted to replace my current BM ACFK version 1 as a EDC.

I'm still asking those of you that know better for leads into what I should get. Here's what I want in my new model.

1: Roughly same size as my ACFK but perhaps a different blade shape.

2: Another locking system other than liners or maybe liners that work. I've had a couple of failures on my current bench made.

3: I want something I can open as quick at my ACFK with practice.

So far I've looked at the BM 710, Kershaw Onion, SpyderCo and Emerson. I'm leaning towards the BM 710 in M2 but those are hard to find locally. Anyone care to give me more advise?

ehhh I think you covered all the bases with the knives you hecked out.
The 710 would be my first reommendation, but some people feel it's not tactial enough, since you an't really stab with it safely (who want's to stab anyway? :D). The 710 HSS would be my choice if I had to pick one.
I would like to add the al Mar SERE 2k, and you missed most of the microtech line. Especially the SOCOM-E is a kick-ass knife, espeially for daily hard use. This one would be my second choice. Especially for heavier long term use the SOCOM-E is better I think.

MOD makes some cute knives too in this range.

If you can let go of the afck size, the camillius EDC line, especially in 154-CM or even better, talonite, would rock too.

I carry a SIFU in D2-E on a daily basis, and i defenitely an't get a smaller knife, since I'm used to this size. The afck, 710 and SOCOM-e feel small in comparison :D

FWIW I have seen very few (if any) production companies that can make a liner lock 100% successful, so if you're real concerned with them failing I would choose another lock type.

What I mean by that statement for example is that MOD makes the Tempest and for every 100 knives the liner is wrong on 50 or 60 of them. Not singling out MOD because I like their knives but that's pretty much what I've seen with every production liner lock, a certain percentage is bad.

I like the 710 but if you get it on line ask the dealer to inspect it before shipping to you to make sure the blade is centered properly and does not rub.

If you're looking for a very cool knife in a similar size maybe the MOD CQD MKII would be up your alley. I have one and love it, I also hear very few complaints about it. I can't reccomend this knife enough, it's amazing how much thought went into it's design.

The SOG Vision is a great knife if you don't mind a part serrated Tanto and it can be had in titanium, g-10 or zytel.

You can't go wrong with a large Sebenza if you've got the money. You could find one here for sale for roughly double the cost of a 710 if you keep your eyes peeled.

Here are a few more worth looking at:
REKAT Carnivore Cub
Spyderco Police
Spyderco JD Smith

Good luck!

I am like-minded with Bart student regarding the Microtech SOCOM Elite model, this folder should be on your short-list!
A reliable lock, very good workmanship and a great blade/handle design.
Equally right for hard and precise work. Furthermore a very well suitable self defense folder.
IMO one of the best all-around folders (production) currently available.

You sound like you have the same tast in carry knives that I do.

I carried the ACFK for years.

Any of the BM Axis locks that feel good to your hand will serve you well. The are very fine folders.

The large or small Sebenza, if you are flush enough to afford one, would be an awesome choice. The simple utilitarian design is a classic. You know where the money went after you handle and inspect one of these users.

Whichever knife you choose, have fun in your quest.
