We've just started making the satin finished blade in the aluminum handled Flash models. Here's the scans I quickly did last night.

I can't say this enough...there is a major difference between the Zytel and aluminum models in the movement, feel, and sound of these knives!

Ron, thanks for posting those new pictures. Way cool. Would it be possible for you to drescribe the differences between the two handles a little better? say, which feels better in the hand, which opens smother and so on.

These knives have started to ship.

Regarding the differences in "feel," I should probably start by saying that Zytel is a great material for durability and reducing weight, I personally have focused my knife buying attention (and affection) on other materials (such as G-10, aluminum, carbon fiber, titanium, stainless steel, wood, etc.). There is nothing wrong with the Zytel handled Flashes whatsoever! I just like the aluminum Flashes more!

The aluminum Flash has a bit more weight; and for me, it gives a more “solid feel” in the hand. The Zytel Flash II weighs 3.1oz and the aluminum Flash II weighs 4.3oz (my unofficial measurements on one of our higher-tech postal scales). The opening mechanisms are the same, but when the knife clicks open, there’s just a different feel and sound of steel-on-aluminum versus steel-on-Zytel. Ooooo!...is all I can say. And tactilely, there’s just a different feel of cool, smooth aluminum.

Most of it I’ll say are just aesthetics. But for me, they are very important areas!

Hey Ron, what a great description. I can just imagine what you're talking about. Now, if my imagination could just create one fore real.:D

BTW can you post a pic of the Zytel and aluminum handled Flash II's side by side?

Are you trying to make me work? ;)

Here you go! A pair of Flash IIs.

...Very nice looking knife, Ron! Is it also available with a plain-edge (or "strait-edge" as SOG calls it)? (...Not that I'll ever have any "spare money" with which to buy one...).

Ron, I'm sorry but I still can't see the difference in color with the pictures you posted. I think you're just going to have to send me a Flash, and a Vision so I can see for myself! ;)

You?? Work?? Haahaahaa!!;) Thanks for the pics. That was exactly what I was looking for.

Hey!!! I never noticed that the Aluminum Handles were also textured. Way cool! An Aluminum handled Flash II is now on my wish list.

Hi Ron, between the Zytel and the Aluminum handle on the flash, which one in your opinion would grip better when wet(or bloody)?

Hi Pete,

Though I've not personally handled these knives while having my hands covered in blood -- or for that matter "water" :) -- the "grippiness" of them both would in my estimation be exactly the same. This is because the texture is perfectly identical.

The only difference would be in the tactile sense of aluminum over Zytel. I'm trying to think of an example for you. Maybe something like fine leather versus basic vinyl.
