I was just looking through my Gall's catalog when on page 157 I came across the "stab proof vests" for riot sqauds and correctional officers. 2 different manufacturers, Safariland and ABA, each have a picture of a butterfly knife lying open on their vest. Not a Chicago Cutlery kitchen knife, not a Ginsu, but butterfly knives. And 2 different knives at that.
Somehow I gotta figure out how to put a flashhider and a bayonet lug on a balisong. If the media are to be belived, it would probably be the most dangerous weapon in America! :D

I suggest that you write to the folks at Gall's and also at Safariland and ABA (use the web). Simply explain to them that this picture is sensational and unrealistic. Point out that the vast majority of knife-related crimes involve much more common knives. By using an exotic knife, they are subliminally teaching their customers to be aware of and expect an exotic knife when, in fact, an attack will probably involve a significantly different weapon. This is a great disservice to their customers.

Furthermore, this unrealistic portrayal of this product may actually hurt sales to knowledgable customers for two reasons: first, a knowledgable customer may look at that picture and say, "That's not the kind of knife I face. I don't need a product to protect against that kind of knife. The kind of knife I face and worry about is a big kitchen knife or a razor-blade box knife. Show me a product to protect against those knives." Second, a knowledgable customer may look at that picture and determine that the manufacturer of the vest does not have a realistic understanding of real-world knife threats. He may conclude, therefore, that the vest is as poorly designed as the picture.

So, for all of these reasons, suggest that this picture be changed.

Particularly if these vests are marketed to corrections officers. A sharpened spoon or fork handle is the most likely thing they would be attacked with.

Yah, ive seen a wall full of confinscated weapons from prisons. One was made out of a peice of plastic.

First they take away our gun now they target our knives with bad PR what next our right to breath when will it stop

They tried banning MA in China, look how far it got them! Why do they want to take away everything that makes this country great?! I don't understand our government sometimes. Why do the respectable citizens have to suffer the fate of the crooks!

Here in Sweden they are currently debating in the government whether to ban some MA or not. As you may know, pro boxing is banned in Sweden already, and now they want to also ban other full-contact sports like thai/kick-boxing, shoot etc.

Well said! Personally, I'm hoping to see the developing International Organization of Balisong Enthusiasts really take off. To the public eye, our "whining" would hold a little more weight with such a fancy, non-offensive name behind it. :)

:) Agreeing with Blasto! They start placing Balisongs in Budweiser adds and I'm gonna gets p.o.ed! :D Sad thing is, there are many people out there whom are unable to comprehend real life issues.
