Yep, I like cleavers ( and cleavage..). I know a couple of members have been modding cleavers for outdoor use. I picked up this guy recently, it is marked "Wright Smoke" (not a brand I am familiar with). The blade was re-profiled by someone. My initial impression is that would make a decent camp knife, it chops pretty well, but not as well as the much heavier, thicker and longer Foster Bros. The knife is about 13" in length and a hair over 1/8" thick..

Is anybody else messing around with modded cleavers? Post a pic if you have one...

that is more like a clip-pointed hatchet! that is a Beast of a knife, looks like whoever did the reprofile did a great job.

BF,

Yeah it is a beast... Good camp knife I would think. It is not as heavy as you might guess, just a little over a pound. The only downside is that I don't have a sheath for it.. Hmmm, I wonder Koyote Girl is up to....

Right, it's like Laci Szabo's Ogre.
Might work well in a kitchen, too.

Esav - I'm confident that knife will work well in the kitchen. IMHO, its the first test of every good outdoor knife, big and small, its value in the kitchen. Fiddleback's nessies prove themselves in that way (almost lost that one to the wife)....

I could see a knife like that with a fairly robust edge on the straightaway for chopping and a finer edge on the big belly for food prep.

That does look a LOT like Szabo's Ogre. I kinda want one.

You know what I like about these cleavers, they have plenty of mod potential, they have all been time tested, and they are dirt cheap. I paid $10 for the knife in this thread and paid the same for these two below.. That Foster Bros. in the pic below was the only thing I used splitting kindling all winter (I heat my house promarily with a woodstove).. Can't beat them...

Yep! Where's Siguy?

I also want a Fiddleback large nessie.

Yep, I love my Koster Monster Nessie, I'm pretty sure I would love an F-back too? Andy - the steel is calling....

I haven't seen sig guy on here lately, but richard j did one hell of a job on my emerson, making it a Scandi. I'm thinking about making his life hell and having him re-do one of my large MMHW bowies, and this reminded me of it.

"More Cleavage" - the first post I opened. Are there any infractions for wanton misrepresentation?

Doc - You sound like a dirty, old man. Just my kinda guy:thumbup: If this collaboration I'm working on with siguy/RichardJ/ ilbruche (remember him?) comes off, I promise real cleavage in every shot!
