In an honest attempt to NOT thread-jack kendric, here is the Dexy goodness that arrived today. The Stealth has arrived!!!!

The hen really likes her five (it was a Valentine's Day gift). I showed her the scales, and she said "ooh... yeah put those on there."

Look at this park-job!!!

I have paraffin waxed one side, and it came out absolutely amazing. I waxed only one side, because I will be doing a video review of Dex's parking that will include durability testing. I want to know if the wax will help out at all.

If you ask me... I think the wax made the park appear a little darker. Anywho... stay tuned for the video as I'm proud to announce it will be my first of many. I'm starting a YouTube channel that will focus on real world performance. Thanks for checking these blades out.

Looks awesome Rick, and go Dex your on fire, make sure you send us a link to your channel so I can sub.

Thanks, man. I'll post the video here on the forum, so y'all can enjoy, and all that.

Nice pics, thanks for the close up shots of the park finish. Are all of those refinished?
No, only the 4. But, I can tell you this... all of my future blades will be C.O.B.L.E. (including my 21 which I'm already down for😉). I've got a 2 under mod construction that will get cobled when the transformation is complete. As well as any blades I strip in the future.

Very nice indeed.

Going to send in at least one for the darkside treatment. But might be simpler to just buy a new one parked. ;)

Those look great.

I know that using gun bluing is supposed to be NOT food safe.

Is a parkerized finish food safe? (I know bluing and parkerizing are different processes with different methods and chemicals used.)

getting stabbed in the heart is probably not food safe :D

in theory, no coating, is food safe.

take that as you will

Actually, parkerizing is just a form of aggressive etching. As far as I know 😉 it's food safe when oiled/waxed with a food safe product. Bluing is toxic and like you said completely different from parkerizing. Here is a site that talks about manganese which is used in parking steel.

Nice! Looks great man. Glad you woman likes the 5 and the pink scales too.

That machax looks killer in the parked finish! Hope it holds up well. I am interested to see the results after some hard use.

It is safe brother. I did tons of research before diving in and found nothing bad about it. Even ask the company who makes the solutions I use and they said it's good to go.

It's kind of like a heavy duty patina that forms phosphate crystals on the metal or something. Kinda does etch it like CM_Rick stated. To me it's still a great mystery since I'm no scientist, but I sure do love the results. It really soaks up oil and that is what really protects the metal. So as long as you are using food safe oil on the blade, it will be safe.

Blueing however is one of the worst and most toxic finishes you can put on a blade. I don't know why all those dumb youtube guys tell their viewers to get the cold blue and put on their knives. That is actually toxic chemicals. Totally different process. I have talked to the company that makes the stuff and they said never ever use around food unless you want to DIE!

Found a 'gunsmith' who said that the secret to military parkerizing was the months/years they spent wrapped in cosmoline. So, after parkerizing, he coats gun parts in Vaseline and then 'bakes' them in a warm oven for several hours and has not had to reapply oil for years.

If the park dries out, rust will happen.

Dex did just that to my 4. He really is on top of it, guys.

Yep. That's how they get that greenish color.

I have been putting the Vaseline on them and putting them in the oven for a bit. Seems to work pretty good. CM_Ricks got the vaseline treatment.

But a knife used for food prep is gonna be washed and oil will need to be reapplied to the blade every few times. But I think the Vaseline under the handle scales is gonna be great and keep rust away for a long while.
