Adding to the fire startig thread we just had, some more remarks...
Fire1.jpg

1.Tinder must be big enough so that the sparks will shoot right into it.
Fire2.jpg

2. The stiker that comes with the firesteel works very well, however the side that is marked with the word "up" must be directed toward yourself, otherwise only few sparks can be generated.

3. Hold the steel as close as possible to the tinder, sparks will only fly a short distance and glow out rapidly. Scratch SLOWLY but with PRESSURE. Fast scratching will generate smaller and fewer sparks.

4. Usually you have to scratch a few times in order to start the fire.

5. Enjoy the fire.

where can I get one of those firesteel gagets? it looks pretty cool, or should I say hot.

That looks like a re-handled fire steel. The rod looks like that found on a Swedish fire steel Army model (available at places like 1sks.com or dlttrading) or a magfire pro model (magfireusa.com). They typically run about $20 now. I haven't taken matches or lighter on a campout in over a year, I strictly use firesteel.

i think thats one or redscorpion6's blades
This is not our blade. similar but different saw back style and handle. I think this is a custom knife according to other threads. Ours are production.
