Here's my sarangi that hangs on the wall of the Titanic. It is 15 long, by about 5 wide and a couple of inches thick. Needless to say, I can't play it. This is carved from a single piece of wood which I "think" is saatisal. There's a sort of makeshift bow that I didn't include in the pix and you play it like a fiddle.

Bro what would be the chances of us getting a few examples of the Newari's art like this?

I have something similar except the one I have is a single string fiddle something like the Apache once played, don't know if they still do though.
I read about the Apache one string fiddle in a book I had about the Apache that I gave to a nephew.
The one I have isn't quite as elaborately carved and is of a beautiful blonde colored wood that looking at it closely may be an oak.
It comes with a bow as well.
I don't know where it came from, but it isn't from the Americas I don't think.

"VEGETARIAN".............
Indin word for lousy hunter.

This one was sent to me from Nepal. I had bought one years ago at Pashpatinath but it got away from me. I think I gave it to my Dad as if he needed more stringed instruments around the house! I've heard Nepalis play this thing and it sounds very much like an old fiddle my grandfather used to play.

Huh? Titanic?

Too cool. Think they want to give a Gibson or Martin style accoustic guitar a try? Seriously, woodcarving and instrument making are two of my hobbies and that is a prime example of the two in "harmony".
