Hello Buddies,

recently, i spend a very nice afternoon in the Woods, using an acient chainsaw.

The Story behind is: this saw belonged to my grandfather, who passed away 15 years ago. The chainsaw remained at my grandmothers place ... not being used.
Some weeks ago, i fetched it from her in order to check if still can be started... and it only took some few pulls and it was running again. With a weight of 8,4 kg, it is no featherweigth...

Nice video!

I have an old 028s - great saw, and still works like a champ.

Hi Buddies,

thanks ...

yes, the chain is rather old. I will shapren it soon .. or better get a complete new chain :-)

I really like to use that old Tools. Thats quite an experience. - I have to admit that after using it for 2 or 3 hours, my muscles and my aching spine rather felt the work... poor guys in the old days who had to use it for 10 hours a day.

Cheers, Erik

40-50 years ago the 08S was very popular with the tool rental people, they always had an 08S in their rental fleet.
About 5 years ago I sold my old 075 (same vintage as your 08S) to a collector. It had a 60" bar on it. Now that was a heavy saw!

The 08 came out in 1963.

By some accounts the 08S (super) was introduced in 1965. Neat saw.

google translate: what a beautiful mechanics. . . this Stihl.

You know you're getting old when you remember when these were new. They didn't have a chain brake or vibration damping but then again neither did McCullough's, Homelites or Pioneers of the time. But they were reliable unlike the domestics. The Stihl '08 platform' was produced for about 2 decades and was also used for concrete and cutoff saws. What's really impressive is that parts are still readily available for this hugely popular saw!
