Well i didnt want to take over anyone else's thread so i figured id just start a new one.

I Just put a new wrap on my KDSH last night. Nothing fancy just a basic wrap with like 3 layers of Pcord to give it a fatter grip and less shock absorption when chopping with it... Last time i used it i messed the wrap up, and got it pretty dirty, so it was time for a clean up job on it. You may also notice i smoothed the coating a little on the head, both cutting and spike sides.

I have tried sheaths for the KDSH from Mashed Cat, Azwelke, And Dave brown.... My favorite so far is the Dave brown sheath, but with Azwelke's drop belt loop as im not a fan of tek-lok. Not that there was anything wrong with the other sheaths, i just like this setup best.

Then i bashed it through a couple pieces of wood. Cut up some foam noodles, and made sure the edge was still paper shaving sharp. It was of course. I have yet to even touch up the edge on this even after throwing it well over a hundred times.... Its like the energizer bunny... it keeps going...... And going.....

I see I'm not the only one who thinks the stock handles are a bit rough... :)

Yea, well mine is one of the cord wrapped versions. but i have tried one of the handled ones as well and i prefer the cord wrapped versions for my use.... but it took a few layers of paracord to build up the handle to keep some of the vibrations down. If i was using this as a dedicated chopper i might prefer the canvas micarta really. But i mostly just use mine to throw... and destroy stuff LOL.

More of a toy for me than a tool. :D

I've found that cord wrapped handles work really well if you find some 1/4" rubber to cut and line the handle with underneath the paracord. Helps to thicken the handle and absorbs shock nicely.

I think my problem with the micarta is the texturing is ambidextrous. I really only need it on one side, and the other side kinda digs into the palm of my hand...

Maybe I'll try to smooth it out, or something...

Thats a great idea bro!! Next time i redo the wrap im going to try the rubber trick, thanks for the suggestion man!!

And yea, if i was you id just take a piece of sandpaper by hand and smooth some of the ridges out a little. That should be all it needs.

Well, that didn't take long. 5 minutes of hand sanding and it's now a righty... And here I was waiting for some nice weather to go out and hit it with a belt sander.

Nice pics, thanks for sharing  Makes me wanting to do some more testing with my Hawk :D

I agree the rope pattern micarta can be killer on ones hands, its really the only issue I have with the RMD. That being said some 200 grit sandpaper and 5-10 minutes fixes it really nicely.

Holy Crap Wood!! It still slices pool noodle after all that throwing and serious choppin?!??!!??

I love that KDSH!!!!!!

It sure does bro!! This thing impresses the crap out of me. It really holds its edge better than a lot of knives.

THAT is such a sweet hawk, since I have decided to wait for the CG Ratweiler I just may have to...*Take out CC and goes to THE Swamp)....
