I recently purchased a Buck Anniversary knife on the 4 letter auction site. The listing photos included a picture of the tang clearly showing the ANVIL on the second line. The knife I received was not as pictured. The same model but with a 2001 blade and normal tang markings. The second picture is a cutout from the listing.

Gee, whats the point of having a 2002 anniversary knife with a 2001 blade!!!!! It was not an expensive purchase but would it be unreasonable to expect refund or replacement? Or do I just lick my wounds and take it as the normal risk taken when dealing on the Bay?

I have queried the seller and waiting response. I'm just posting this to vent cause I'm irked at the moment. Would any of you other collecters even care about the tang marking in this situation? I'm usually cautious when buying a knife and the photo appears to be a stock/generic photo or the seller indicated he has more than one and will ask if I will be receiving the knife pictured when a specific feature is important, but this listing appeared to be the sellers own photo so I wrongly assumed I was buying the knife in the photo.

You DID buy the knife in the photo. We ALWAYS buy what's in the photo. You just didn't RECEIVE the knife you bought.

The photo is an explicit description and the seller did not send what he offered from that photo description.

Seller error. Item not as described.

You bought it because of the Anvil and you should have the Anvil.....PERIOD.

See if he has any of the correct ones left and will exchange it.

If not, I'd send it back rather than let him get away with the mistake (or maybe intentional deception). It probably won't cost much to mail back to him, but be sure he refunds your entire amount including postage.

If he's helpful and cooperative I wouldn't nail him with a neg, because it may be an honest mistake.

Do yourself, the bay, and everyone else a favor and bust this guy! Every time someone gets away with this kind of thing it encourages it and guarantees it will keep happening. Just because it wasn't that costly this time doesn't make it right. You bought a very particular knife and got something completely different. That's not right and shouldn't be accepted. - My $.02

Also, I hope you used a credit card and then you have the credit card chargeback to use in an emergency.

Just don't threaten to use it or threaten a neg.....that's bad form.

If you have to eventually neg the guy, be sure and also give him the lowest ratings on each of the other criteria.

That hurts even the big sellers.

I aggree with BG, contact the seller and either get the knife you though you were buying or hit this guy with Negative Feedback. You would be surprised at the impact Negative feedback has on a seller. Its to the point that - feedback will force the bay to stop sales from this guy/gal. There tired of the problems as well and will shut people down.
