Recently, Âchillepattada Âchillepattada was kind enough to help me procure two Sardinian resolza's. In and of itself, a very generous gesture. Those knives are absolutely stunning!

I began collecting knives from a Spanish maker recently, and found one I wanted to add, but they wouldn't ship to the US. Jean-Marc agreed to forward the package to me.

It arrived yesterday, in perfect condition, along with a note from Jean-Marc saying that he wanted to give a knife to my young son. My son is not quite ready for it yet, but I will save it and give it to him when the time is right. I am grateful for Jean-Marc's generosity and friendship and wanted to share this experience with everyone here. Truly, this subforum is more than just a place to talk about a common interest, but also a place to make genuine friends.

I cannot fully express my gratitude, Jean-Marc. Thank you!

The prize that awaits my son!

Fantastic. 👍👍👍but why does European horn always look so much better ? Travelling to the next town for a decent haircut I noticed a herd of cows with long horns...they stood out because most of the cattle round here are short or no horn type breeds. Theyve been taken away now though...I was going to ask what happens to the horns when the beasts are slaughtered.

I love these knives Steve. Thank you for sharing them and thank you J-M Âchillepattada Âchillepattada for bringing us such a vast array of European cutlery and acquainting us with so many fine cutlery artists. I have learned so much from your various threads.

I really have no idea on either account, but I will say that Italian sheep horns are some of the absolute best in the world

The French seem to use cow horn more. The tip of the horn is the premium stuff, which is supposed to be more stable also. Maybe they breed steers just for making knives?! 🤣

Fun fact:. The island of Sardinia has approximately 1.6 million humans and 3 million sheep!

Jean-Marc also shared with me that knife culture is so ingrained into the Sardinian people that everyone has at least one knife maker in their family. I'm a bit envious of that! 😀

Round here longhorns are neat to have for the novelty but they don’t bring as much when taken to market. A regular cow with horns don’t bring as much as a polled. I don’t run cows but I am around it some. I really enjoy it and want to have a few of my own when I get my fences in order.
