Looks like Spyderco revealed some more upcoming blades today. I am VERY interested in the Tropen and the Amalgam, and I will likely pick up an M4 PM3 from BHQ. The Kapara, Drunken, and Subvert look nice as well, but are out of my price range. I am very pleased to see a budget fixed blade, the Bow River, for just over $30. Spyderco continues to kill it, and I am excited for the extended use of the comp lock. Exciting stuff!

That Tropen looks like it might be a CQC8 killer. The design I am most excited for is the Smock. I am intruiged by the Tropen but it is abit big and I figure I would never carry it. Other than that the Brouwer still looks good to me.

I wish they would update away from s30v though.

Btw here is a link to the catalog for those interested.

I'm super excited for the Bow River and at the same time pretty disappointed. I'd have gladly paid another $60-80 for something in 154 or D2. Imagine it fitted with some D2 and American made.

Or even a more moderate price increase and a Sandvick steel would be good with me.

I am happy with their decision to go with 8Cr13MoV which is very similar to AUS-8a to keep the price point as low as possible.

This places the knife in to the gift/expendable knife range and I will probably buy mutiples.

Not everyone needs a higher end steel and there aren’t that many options for good fixed blades at this price point.

Designs this year are same to me as the last few: disappointment.

Bow River: China made, China stamped, low end steel
Tropen: hideous, ridiculous to look at, Taiwan, g10, and s30v should not cost what they are charging
Kapara : at least we get some carbon fiber, but that's it, profile looks like an endura type blade, no sharpening choil needed apparently
Subvert: My eyes will bleed if they add anymore orange! Won't loose it that's for sure, but you just end up with an s30v blade and titanium handles, made where again??? Taiwan. For the money it has no reason to not be USA made.
Genzow : Is USA made, but a hatchet really?
Province: 4v (great), but 250ish dollars for....again ready for it....Taiwan!
Hanan : Won't ever come out, so why bother anyway

So let's recap, Spyderco has shifted the vast majority of it's line to overseas production, and raised prices, while keeping regular old nothing special steel, while collaborating with anyone they can stick a name on a blade with.

I love my Spydies, but they have gone far away from their roots. I'll treasure the ones I have, and eye ball from time to time what they are coming out with hoping they make one that will appeal to me.

I'll definitely pick up the Tropen and Bow River. High end steel can be amazing in outdoors knives, but I personally rarely need it, so something well designed and made in an affordable steel is quite welcome.

Yep, good stuff coming our way. Ill give the Bow River a try, but I do hope they make a run of it in another steel at some point.

The Tropen is on my list for sure. They also had a proto for a Slysz Swayback....
