Hi Guys:
The Jambiya thread was quite interesting.
If anyone would like to see some more of these knives you might want to try Beorans home site (http://www.cog.jhu.edu/~slade/gurkha.html).
I recently picked up a Jambiya (Omani style) from them and was pleased with the service, the price, and the quality.
You can view this item by selecting from their site: Sold Items, then Turkey/Arab/Caucasus. Look for Item # 5795. The pics are a great deal better than I could post.
The steel in the blade is much inferior to Bill's Ks, but the decorative workmanship, especially the silver, is quite good. This knife is almost 100 years old, and was made by some Arab with about the same tools as the Kamis have. The handle is not rhino, but some other type of horn. The central rib in the blade contributes considerable stiffness, an keeps it from bending when encountering somethins hard, like someones rib.
