More knife than I thought I had in my pocket?

Looking at Hal's lovely Schrade in the favorite shield thread reminded me how much I like my 832 small stockman, which reminded me of a humorous story.

A couple weeks ago I was in the town where my son attends college in order to spend time with a friend I had not seen for a while. After he and I parted ways I spent a couple hours at our favorite coffee shop with my son and his girlfriend. She knows I like knives, and while my son was up at the counter ordering more coffee she asked what I had with me.

I showed her the 832 and opened the sheepsfoot, because it is a bit of an unusual blade shape to non-knife people. She said, "It looks like a mini machete!"

Who knew I carried so much cutting power in a little 3.3125" stockman?

Thank you for the story, it made me chuckle quite a bit.; "It looks like a mini machete!". :D

Nice looking stockman. And a nice comment from your boys girlfriend. But somehow she´s right, it really looks like a minimachete to non-knife-people.

Thanks for the kind words about the 832. It is one of my favorites, even though the main blade has been cut down a bit. Here is a better picture.

lol...i find the sheepsfoot blade on my Buck is the one that gets used the most. never thought of it as a "mini machete" :D

and thats a nice 832 you got there

Atleast she did not say its CUTE :D, very nice knife and photo as usual Doug. Thanks for sharing

Yes, the sheepsfoot blade is the most-used on my stockman knives. It's much 'bigger' than most might assume, in terms of it's capacity to do some 'serious work'. :)

Agreed. I prefer a sheepsfoot to a Wharncliffe.

At least she did say MINI-machete. It was prolly more a comment on the shape than the size.

I uploaded this pic to a machining forum and a response was "Those look like machetes!" exclamation point and all. I responded that I used one as a kitchen knife. Maybe they would have been less threatening on a bed of lettuce.
(Green River blades, by the way)

Just read a thread on how people were calling the OP's little slipjoints "penknives". One of the responses was about "raising conciousness" or sumpin'. In other words improving peoples reaction to knives. Kinda neat.

I think I will start a thread about "NICE things people have said about your knife".

On all my stockmans the sheepsfoot is my favorite blade also. I think it's one of the main reasons I love stockmans so much. I sometimes wish they had a stockman with the sheepsfoot just as long as the clip point. That would be sweet!
