More knives with talon holes not busse

They don't look anything like Busses- except for having a handle and a blade. The ones in question bare a "passing resemblance" to the Team Gemini- in that they have a double guard (with holes), a blade, and a handle. I don't think anyone is going to get confused. But, they are priced high enough. There have been much MUCH more egregious copies in the past, and there likely will be again.

The M4 Ranger on that page is likely guilty since it has a hole in the front guard and that is the "talon hole" trademark that Jerry owns. It doesn't matter if the knife looks the same or not, the trademark is the hole in the front guard and Jerry has rights to that.

Lanyard holes allow the knife to be tethered to the hand. You can climb and shoot while still holding your knife.

:D There are a couple of designs on there that are suspect but it is a pretty common feature on "survival" knives that can be used to make a spear.

I feel like they took some inspiration from Jerry Hossom's Dogtags as well with those smaller blades.....just much cheaper...

I am pretty new to this and this thread caught my eye because I was just looking at another custom knife maker with a similar "Talon Hole" in the guard but his bio says he does collaboration with major knife makers so I wondered if this might be a collaboration with Busse or do they not do this?

Has anyone read the actual patent? I have not...but, I would imagine that "the talon hole" would be a unique design and not some broad spectrum claim to any hole in a hand guard...

Who cares? A busse is a busse. Buy one, beat it, beat it some more. Have fun with it and don't worry about the inferior competition.

Jaxx linked to it recently. I wonder about that, too. The hole in a hand guard thing is a pretty tame design point to even suspect a trademark is attached. The trademark is specifically for the forward lower hole. Beyond that, I don't know what else is in the trademark, e.g., does it have to be a round hole? on a finger guard? a certain size for some usage (though probably not since it's a trademark and not a patent, though there are posts stating that it should've been a patent and was accidentally filed as a trademark, so perhaps Jerry was drunk when filing it, and perhaps he's drunk now, and I think I'd like a good drink right now)?

IMHO both of those would infringe on the Busse talon hole trademark. It is not a patent, or even a design patent, they have a trademark on that design element; and Jerry has to enforce it to avoid losing it.

Before this thread blows up, this subject has been discussed ad nauseum many times in the past, 'search' is your friend.

speaking of infringement.

Marble's is now a chinese junk brand like so many others.

For reference, how to create a talonhole:

If this in any way leads to the genericization of the trademark, I'm truly sorry

The steve ryan is close enough to being outside of the gaurd that it may be outside of the trademark. The hankins on the other hand both matches the hole placement of busse exactly and gets really, really close to being a satin jack/bog dog.

Busse's trademarks:

The talon hole trademark, note that "talon hole" is not the trademark, the 'mark' in this case is the hole itself and it's location.

Nice links LVC. Sad to see the Cubera is dead... but what the heck is "Ground Troop"? Sorta fits in with Light Brigade.

And remember that the trademark is registered in the US only. There has been some confusion about this. But only US made products are affected.

(Of course if a person buys a knife with a talonhole outside the US and brings it into the US then the laws regarding counterfeit products are broken. I heard this can be quite bad.)
