More light questions - but no Fenix

Presently I have a Surefire G2 and an E2E. I also have a number of headlamps and a Rayovac LED that run off AAA bats. My EDC is a Fenix LD01.

I am looking for a bump in the night light to keep in my pistol safe. My initial thought was to upgrade the G2 to LED, thus giving me both an incan and a LED option. But, before I dump money into the G2 I would like to solicit your thoughts on simply purchasing another light. I don't like to collect and I like to re-use, but with the technology advancing as quickly as it is, I don't want to waste my time either. I do not want a weapon-mounted light.

I am open to other light suggestions, but they need to cost the same or less than an LED upgrade. And what upgrade manufacturer would you recommend should I go with that option?

I will not consider any Fenix lights. I returned one of their lights for a warranty repair in November and still have no idea when/if I will ever see it again. That is absolutely unacceptable in my book.

Since you like SureFire, why don't you look into picking up the 6PL? SureFire recently upgraded the 6PL from 80 to 120 lumens. The older 80 lumen version is still available and you can get it for a great price. I got mine for $60 shipped.

That was going to be my suggestion...Well, a 6P anyhow. Not too long ago I bought one from a private party (it was 99.99% brand-new) for $50, and it is a very good light.

Thanks all. I hadn't considered the 6P (looked at some of the newer polymer offerings) and wasn't aware of the deal to be had.

Malkoff devices, no need to look any further.

Ive got a 6PL at home, af G2L in the car and a Z2 + Malkoff M61 for work. Also carry a E1B at work as a backup.

Upgrading your G2 to an LED version sounds like the best idea. I prefer the G2 over the 6P because of its plastic body. Its not that cold to the touch which is why i have one in the car. It is also a great deal lighter. The Surefire LED puts out a good deal of light, more than enough for intended use. Other than that, there really isnt any difference between them.

Malkoffs are nice, but real expensive. I dont think i would buy it again as there are other high-output dropins at a much more affordable price and just as reliable.

IMO theres no need to go all crazy with the latest and priciest dropin/light.

Surefire 6PL is my choice given your criteria. Sure the 200+ lumen lights that use AA are great, but the runtime is short. Personally, I'd rather have something with a better runtime and options for low light if needed, ymmv.
