I personally like the SF handle better. Something about this nano fusion handle doesn't sit well with my hands. It's the one thing that keeps me from absolutely loving my NFBA and nano fusion Forsaken steel heart. I mean I REALLY like the Forsaken steel heart, but a different handle would make me LOVE it.
Just my 2 cents.
Here are Jerry's words from the release of the Forsaken Steel Heart, which was also the debut of the NF handle:What exactly are Nano Fusion handles? Are they just slimmer scales?
As seen in the OP's post with pictures, they're a specific handle design with a specific type of fit/ergonomics. Sixpak1 quoted the bossman's description, but I think the visuals make it more apparent. And someone else raised a question before about the size of these nano fusion handles between different models, and Garth confirmed they're exactly the same between all models, regardless of the size of the rest of the blade. What exactly are Nano Fusion handles? I think the smoothness of using flush ground pins rather than countersunk tubes is a great improvement over the other grades as well. I know that most people want all the texture they can get on a handle but I am the opposite. Most hand tools meant for hard use (picks, shovels, rakes, hoses, axes, hatchets, hammers, etc.) have smooth handles for a reason. Less blisters that way.Ok, after getting my hands on a couple of Crab Shack NF handles, I figured out why I don't like the micarta NF handles.
There's too much shaping/milling/tapering to the scales (looking down from spine, the two milled out portions between the tubes), which creates hotspots and pressure points in my palm. The CS handles are less contoured, and FAR more comfortable to me, regardless of handle thickness. I can now say that I LIKE the NF handle, but only if they're CS, or if Busse toned down the way it's milled, or if I can find a way to fill in the handle scales where it's been milled.
