The late Ted Dowell is the acknowledged master of the integral knife. Ted was one of the founding members and past president of the Knife Makers' Guild. He earned the respect of knife makers and collectors around the world with his consistently excellent work.
This massive matched pair is among the largest made by the master and quite unique. With a total length of 15" and weighing over two pounds the Bowie carries a 9-1/4" blade and was "carved" from a solid piece of 5/8" stock. The dagger, also carved from 5/8" stock, has a hollow ground 6-1/2" blade and an overall length of 12". Both knives feature Rosewood handles and deep relief scroll engraving by master knife maker and engraver H.H. Frank. Henry Frank is known for his "sole authorship" museum grade folding knives. He rarely engraved other makers work but agreed to engrave this extraordinary pair of TMD knives.

I'd like to echo Mr. Gregory's opinion

Ted was a good egg for sure. He got the knife world not just thinking about inovative knives, but he pushed the idea of using more exotic steels. He used vasco-wear, D2, some finishing steels like F2, F3, F8, modern stainless, and I’m sure lots more that I don't know about.

Very kind people.

Rick, you and I communicated about Warenskis a few years back, so if you have anything by Buster ('cause I cannot for the life of me remember our discussion), would love to see it or them!

Thank you for this posting.
In regards to the first pair do you know the finished thickness at the ricassio ?

I don't recall ever having seen a damascus Warenski

I used to like seeing Ted and his work at NY shows, my first look at integrals. Thanks for sharing the these older makers.
