Do you think it's safe to cut micarta with a hand saw without a respirator? At low speeds like that I can't immagine formaldahyde being released.
On a related note, does anyone know at what speed/temperature micarta releases formaldahyde? I work in a laboratory where we use formaldahyde all the time. It is quite easy to smell formaldahyde at concentrations as low as 1ppm, which is not particularly unsafe (I mean, it's unsafe but it's not THAT unsafe). I have never smelled formaldahyde in the air while grinding micarta. I figure it's either because I work outside or because I grind at low speeds or both.
What do you think?
