More on my Huckleberry

Instead of bringing up my old thread, I decided to start a new one. Harvey has been working on my knife at times afforded to him by his very busy schedule.

Here is the Huckleberry after the spine was drawn three times. The tang was not hardened so there is a hard edge (57-58 Rockwell) and softer spring tempered back and ricasso.

The blade has been cleaned up with a 220 grit belt and the false edge is drawn with a magic marker on the clip.

The false edge bevels are ground with a 60 grit belt on the round wheel, moving the blade up and down.

The roughed in clip will be ground to 60 grit.

Checking to make sure the grind is even on top of the blade.

The knife will be finished very soon. There will be more photos to come in the coming days.

I was just playing with Peter Gill's ivory-handled version of that knife - you're going to love yours.

I'm glad to see the new pics, thanks for sharing them. I can't wait to see how it turns out...

It's been awhile.

Here are more photos. I will get all the rest up by the end of the week.

Both 60 and 220 grit belts were used to make this grind. The grind was finished with a 40 micron belt.

After the false edge is ground, it is time to set the edge bevels. The edge is about forty thousandths thick. Harvey finished grinding the edge bevel with a 40 micron belt. He started the grind down close to the wheel, where belt is tighter. A bevel about 3/16” wide was ground on both sides, making sure the bevel was even on each side. Once the edge was almost a burr Harvey moved up on the slack part of the belt. He then rolled the bevel off slightly and brought the edge to a burr. This made a flat grind with a convex edge.

The edge bevels are shown after they are ground in.

The burr on the edge of the blade is shown. This is what he looks for when Harvey is bringing the blade across the belt, in the final stages of setting up the edge.

Getting close now! Thanks for keeping us updated, this is a fun thread to watch.
