Hi all. I am sure everyone has seen these, but I had to bring them up again. I am typically a fan of machetes, but I wanted to get one of these in the larger size. My previous was one of the Gerber Back-pax, and it would wear you out.
I just had the chance to pick up one of the Fiskars, so I did. After sharpening, I took it out. The thing that I never noticed before is how closely these axes resemble a scandi grind. The axe can be choked up on and makes fuzz sticks nicely.
So, enjoy your Fiskars, and try using it as a knife for makeing fuzz sticks.
Now back to your regularly scheduled programming.

BTW, I still like the machetes.:D

Yep, last time I was out I pretty much used my Fiskars for pretty much everything I would normally use a knife for, like opening food packages, making shavings and fuzz sticks, cutting cord, etc. and it worked great. A knife is better at some things obviously, but I wanted to see how much knife work I could do with a hatchet if i had to.

I'm a big fan of khukris myself, but I switched to the hatchet because I only ever used my khuk for chopping and splitting anyway and the hatchet does that work better.
