I finally got to use it for some of what it was designed for this weekend. Harvested the materials to make a hand drill and base board. Did all the carving and drilled several holes with the tip. Cut lots of yucca leaves to make cord. Did lots of general whittling just for fun. Cut up some fruit, and meat. The blade is still shaving sharp. I found the blade geometry to be just about perfect. The thin edge and high, flat grind slide into most materials with ease. The handle is hand filling, without being too bulky, and the whole thing is light and unobtrusive in my pocket. Using this knife is a joy, and I can't really find anything I dislike about it. It's a tough choice now on whether to carry this, or much more expensive custom folders. This will always be part of my wilderness travel gear though, that's for sure.

I really want one of these. I've been putting it off though. I wanted to see some reviews before I took the plunge. Seeing your review makes me want one even more.

Do you think it is substantially better than the standard griptilian to justify ther extra $$$?

I'm trying to resist, but don't know how much longer I can hold out. If the scales were g-10 instead of FRN I would've already ordered one.

Shootist, go for it!
I have mine on order. In a few months you will have forgotten the extra $'s, but you'll still have that S30V Griptilian!!

In my opinion, yes. I don't think of myself as a steel snob, but S30V really impresses me. Also, this is basically a Sebenza blade in a Grip handle. I also like this bladeshape better than the regular Grip models. It's truly a cutting demon. If you end up buying one and not liking it (WHich I seriously doubt!) I'm sure you could get your money back on the secondary market. I was never a huge fan of the regular Grip, but this one has really impressed me.
