Some more outdoor fun.
Recent canoe trip. Carried a Fiskars Mini hatchet, a Fallkniven A1, a Coldsteel Desperado and a Leatherman Wave. As always, the A1 and the Desperado didn't leave the sheath. :o When it comes to outdoor activity I always end up using the hatchet and a multi-tool. But I can't help it, I still have to carry a knive :D . Let's see, I'm waiting for my custom WSK. :D :D

So there's an excellent way to trim your pack weight next time. Weight isn't much of an issue when river canoeing though.

That dog looks huge in the photo. Is the dog standing on some sort of outrigger?

Hi,
the dog is inside the canoe, but right, there is a self-constructed outrigger. Otherwise the dog would easily turn the canoe up side down when moving.
The dog has 76kg (I think this is about 165 pounds).

Let the dog carry the knives! The weight would be no problem for him. :) (Great picture.)

ml100, how have you found the Fiskars hatchet to perform?
There's been some discussion about their performance lately, and I've had to refer to their bigger "brothers".
Since you seem to have lots of experience with one, it'd be nice to hear your input.

The CS Desperado sounds like an interesting choice for outings. How did you come to choose to take it along?

Hi, thanks for the comments.

The pic was taken on the "Walensee", which is the deepest lake in Switzerland. Maximum depth is about 800 feet  .

About the CS Desperado: For cutting ropes and stuff like that it is just perfect. So for canoeing a good choice. Very light and handy, easy to draw in every situation. And if it gets lots it wasn´t expensive at least.

The Fiskars Mini: I just love this hatched, small but very effective. I was surprized by its capability to split wood. On the other hand you can even do fine works with it like slicing tomatoes. Hey, what do I carry a knife for????

Best regards,
Markus

165 pounds? Cripes, man, I weigh only about 135!
