don't know and yes. Just a guess, maybe when military need ceased they were required to remove military markings before selling these items to the public? Maybe an Imperial manufacture. m3s are highly collectable, someone has the answer to the removal of the markings. Hopefully they will show up here. I think I have a book around somewhere that shows manufacturer pommel penning patterns.
Thanks. Any help is appreciated. ALL I know about this particular M3 is that its owner was a US Vet that served in the Pacific during WWII. The M3 w/sheath was found in his toolbox, along with his issued KABAR, after his death.
I plan on listing this M3, as well as a WWII Kabar, WWII sailor-made (while on board the USS Lexington) 'butterfly' knife, a WWII (1943-dated) M1 Carbine paratrooper case, and a W49 'Nam-era Western bowie (1960's vintage) for sale, shortly. Thanks for the information.
