top -- Taken from the hilltop at Manakamana this is looking generally NNW. Off in the distant haze lies Gorkha, once the kingdom of Prithivi Narayan Shah, founder of Nepal and commander if chief of the first Gorkhas. Sadly, now this district is a hotbed of Maoist terrorists and a very dangerous place.

bottom -- Prayer flags go up for Yangdu and Uncle Bill. Doing the honors are brother-in-law, Nabin Karmacharya, and a nice Magar fellow we met at the shrine. Although a Hindu shrine many Buddhist prayer flags flutter in the winds on the hilltop at Manakamana. We had the flags special made in Kathmandu by a Buddhist monk and hand carried them up to the shrine.

Uncle Bill, your pictures are terrific. I wish there were some way you could put together some kind of picture book of your Nepal experience. With your insight and ability to say so much with pictures and just a few words, such a collection would be a real treasure. Perhaps you could work on that in your spare time (just kidding -- I know that time is one thing you have too little of).

Please keep the photos coming. They mean a lot to us forumites because they give us a sense of what Nepal and its people are really like, which helps us understand and better appreciate our khukuris and the craftsmen who make them.
