This month's issue of Knives Illustrated has a SHOT SHOW article. Obviously missing are new products from Canal Street Cutlery, Colonial Knife Company, and Schrade. There is, however, a few paragraphs titled Schrade. Stewert Taylor mentions that he is lisencing some of the 90 trademarks obtained as part of the Schrade I.P. Plans include some imported knives, some USA produced knives, and repros of popular Schrade patterns, as well as L.E. autos. Long range plans include a whole range of outdoor equipment... "anything to do with the outdoors" by licensing the Schrade name to other manufacturers.. Can you say Coleman ?

I'd consider buying US-made knives. Having a "Schrade" brand knife that's actually manufactured by Queen/Camillus/Bear/etc. doesn't bother me one bit. Unfortunately the Old Timers are my favorite Schrade line and those are being imported from China...

Wouldn't it have been cool if Case or Queen could have bought the OldTimer brand?

Case, Queen, Camillus, Bear, heck even Taiwan would have been better than China. It makes me sick to think that Schrade may become what Coleman is. I'm tired of seeing unscrupulous (i had to look up the spelling on that one...) people leech off of an American companies good name. I should be accustomed to it since it seems to happen all the time. If Taylor decides to only use the name on high quality, non-Chinese gear then I would feel better about it but I doubt that happens, especially after seeing what he has done with the Old Timers.

Yeah, other companies are doing some patterns that are the same as traditional Old Timers. But I'm a stickler; to me it's not an "OldTimer" unless it has the OT shield and brown 'sawcut' Delrin plastic. :)

I like the American made sharpfinger knock off and hope they do well for the companies selling them. A nice salute to a grand old design.

I honestly don't think any of us will have a problem in our lifetime finding a Schrade sharpfinger if we really want one. Lots of them out there.

Good point about Coleman, Mike.

Hi Gang,
I thought I heard somewhere the Chinese versions were going to be called
"Old Grasshoppers". Inspected by Master Poe & associates. I could be wrong though. Hope this helps.

We went to the Blade Show to seek out custom knife makers to design some innovative patterns to add to the Colonial knife line of knives. We have two very well known custom knife designers that will be coming on board with us this summer.
Also, the time was used to walk the show and to see what the competition was doing without showing our hand. We also used the Blade Show as a meeting ground with our South East sales team to discuss the competition and discuss where we are stonger/weaker, etc. Plus we met with the editors of Tactical knives, Blade, and Law Enforcement news, all of which will be writting about Colonial in 05 and our new products.

Steve, all interesting. Glad you make our forum here a regular stop. Please do keep us posted. Best of luck to you and your company.
Phil
