At least IMHO.
In the Ballisong area at BladeForum a BF member has graciously begun a posted list of owners of numbered BM 42 Ballisong knives - protos, preruns, first runs, customs, etc
Hopefully, I'm not breaking any rule spoken or unspoken- here is the url in case some of you want to take a look:
http://www.contrib.andrew.cmu.edu/~soo/balisong/article13.html

I like the idea and wondered if other Spyderco collectors with collector club, limited numbered runs, sprint runs, etc. might be interested in a similar website honoring our Spyderco products.
A few positives imho, info listed to only what YOU the OWNER provide. So we don't set any of ourselves up for theft, spam, etc.
The list builds comradery not competition, envy or "my blade's bigger than your blade" etc.

A few other points of discussion:
Unfortunately, I can't volunteer to start the site because of ongoing health problems so that I couldn't guarantee prompt participation, updating, etc Nothing life threatening at this point, but more nuisance type stuff of oncoming old age

. So someone else would need to volunteer.
Which brings up my next "point of discussion": I feel Sal, Gail, Patti and Spyderco et al already do a lot for us ion all the site work, moderating etc they do. So my suggestion would be a member (or several) taking it on.
I also thought it would be a good idea to contact the BF member who does the Balissong list to let him know if we're going to do something similar. It's agreat looking site with a lot of hard work and I wouldn't want to plagerize, copy or step on anyone else's toes.

Sal, Forumites - Comments or Suggestions How do you all feel. Sal, with your OK? Any volunteers?
I wanted to add a PS that it might be better for discussion to take place before mass postings of #'s etc !!! PLEASE

colobbfan, I think it is a great idea! Not only would it give us a chance to list some great knives, but it would also be informative to those new to collecting to give them some idea as to what is out there. I'm not sure what you have in mind but I would be willing to donate some time working on that type of project. One thing I would like to see, and it has been mentioned before, is a listing of all the Spyderco knives, not only when they were made, but also how many were made. I know this may be off the subject somewhat, I just think it would help a lot of people who want to collect Spyderco. Let's see what others have to say! Ron.....

Hey ronybear,
Like the Evolution Workers and the other "jewelry" Spyderco knife products that were produced!!
BTW Sal has relied on Spyder.com Forum:
http://www.spyderco.com/forum/topic.asp?topic_id=810&forum_id=7&Topic_Title=An+Idea+With+More+Positives+Than+Negatives%2E%2E%2&forum_title=General+Information+Forum&M=True&S=True

And after we receive more feedback here I would definetely like to email to give info and get "permission" from the Balisong gentleman. I like the format but didn't want to have a stolen type of thing.

I read a post or reply from Sal stating his interest in such a list as you've suggested.
Again, I can't be the major person on this for the reason stated above. But, I'd be able to help in limited ways. Primarily I don't want this to add any more work for Sal and everyone else at Spyderco.

So I hope others will offer their comments & thoughts!!! And, if and when the project gets off the ground, some help.
John

John, like I said I would be willing to help put something together. I do know how to set up websites! I have been working on one for myself. The first thing we need to do is decide what topics do we want in this website? I already have a chronalogical list of Spyderco knives that I have typed up. It probably is not complete, but I used the front of the Spyderco Brochure to get the dates. Now if we just had numbers of how many were made. I think we could post several diferent pages where people could list their most highly prized Spyderco, also a page where Collector Club members could include their email information, to be able to communicate with other club members. We are talking about only 200 Club Members, so that would not be hard to do. We might even be able to get Spyderco to send a letter to the club members, letting them know about the new website and they could have their names, collector club number and email address published!!! I don't know how to do chat rooms, but it would be cool to make it a chat site or at least be able to put a for sale or wanted list page! Just some suggestions! Later, Ron......
