More power in longer handle?

There are some knives that have handles about 5-6 inches and the blade only about 3-4 inches.

Although, most knifemakers don't discuss this in detail, I suspect that the longer handle makes for more effective cutting.

Am I right in holding this opinion?

We have to define the word 'cutting'. For me, cutting includes slicing and chopping.

I suspect that the longer handle makes for more effective cutting.

That statement is not entirely true. For a machette or bolo, we want the handle to be short, and the blade to be wide and tip heavy. Very effective for chopping.

I think, the most important factor for cutting is the blade design and the blade material respectively.

The combination of short blade (3-4") and the long handle (5-6") is usually found in utility/hunting/skinner type of knife. The reason : we don't need a too long of the blade, but we need a comfortable handle.

I never see someone skinning a game with a 6" blade.
