The way I understand it the first two hundered numbered Spdyerco's made go to members of the Spyderco club.

From the information I have seen there are not two hundered members in the Spdyerco club.

So what happens to the # spdyerco's that do not go to Spdyerco members.

Are there special spyderco deals that sell them?

If so who are they?

I ask because I would like to find a dealer that has a # kiwi in stock :)

Thanks,

I think it just depends on what dealers order and get them first, and that might change from model to model. I've gotten numbered pieces from various dealers and am always surprised. I've never outright asked for a numbered piece.

So far as I know, the Kiwi is not among the knives you are "bond" to buy as a collector. So it could be easier to get a # Kiwi.

I've always been worried about how easy it might be for someone to falsify the numbers, say perhaps to increase value on Ebay. There have recently been a lot of #002 Spydercos coming up for auction, I'd always supposed that such a low number would, to a Spydienut, be almost like a religious artifact and would never see public auction!
Some have the number engraved on the blade, some have it laser "etched".
All have the number written on the box, but some have it printed and some have it just handwritten in biro. An "R" in my collection for instance has a serial number on the box, but not on the blade, so I guess something doesn't match there :-(
All the owner's club knives should come with a letter from Spyderco, which allows some sort of authenticity, but as far as I know, the ordinary numbered (above #200?) don't have the letter.
I'd like to see a owner's club where members could (voluntarily, or only open to moderator's eyes) register their numbered Spydies, if not their whole collection. I wonder if we might turn up a few fakes?
