this is from our local paper up here:

the headline: "Weekend of knife-crime savagery throughout southwestern B.C.! "
this is my comment that i posted (it will appear on the Province website this morning)
"As a law abiding citizen with good morale values, and as a knife collector and aspiring knifemaker, I would like to remind people that not all people who carry knives are going to use them as a weapon. Many of us carry fixed blades or folder knives for use as a tool everyday, not as a weapon. It is perfectly legal for me to wear a fixed blade on my belt or carry a folder blade in my pocket, for use as a tool. Canadas knife laws are based on INTENT, and it is my intent to use my edged tools as TOOLS, not weapons. A lot of people hear sensational headlines about knife crimes and automatically lump anyone they see who is carrying a knife as a criminal or person about to do harm to others. This is simply not true. There is an enormous amount of people who carry a knife everyday who would never entertain the thought of using it as a weapon. It is an inanimate object, incapable of harming anyone, UNLESS USED AS A WEAPON. Address the INTENT and the ACTIONS of the individual who has used a knife as a weapon, instead of focusing on the OBJECT itself. Otherwise you tarnish all of us who carry such edged tools legally.
