I received a package from r8shell on Friday afternoon :) I am still a little astonished at how well she read my knife tastes! :D

I am very interested in old cutlery firms, but while I come across knives from a great many old Sheffield firms, it’s only rarely that I come across anything at all from the US on my travels. Along with a nice hand-written card from r8shell, wishing me a very happy 2017, there was an excellent selection of old American names – Western, Kutmaster, Klein, Imperial (Humbug Knife!), as well as a great-looking Okapi Biltong Knife, and a cool old fairground token R8shell had also sought out some peanut-butter pretzels, which we just don’t get here :) Scrumdidliumptious! :D

Thanks for your thoughtfulness r8shell, which is very greatly appreciated :)

Way to go r8shell and well deserved for you Jack. We all would be hard pressed to repay you for all you've done, Jack. Enjoy.

Many thanks for the kind words Alan and Ron :)

What a nice gesture r8shell and I'm sure well deserved. If I could not get peanut butter pretzels here, I would have to find a friend somewhere!

I'm glad you like your pressies, Jack. I feel much the same way on the occasions when I recieve a package from you with old Sheffield Cutlers like Richards, Rodgers, Taylor, etc. that are very scarce on this side of the pond.

I just want to mention that I was mistaken regarding the token being from a video arcade. I got a bit curious and Googled Crabtree Amusements, They are still in business, and are one of those temporary carnivals that set up at county fairs and rodeos. The kind that will cheat you at the midway games and I wouldn't vouch for the safety of the rides. (I don't know if you have that sort of thing in England) They use tokens because they don't trust the carnies to handle cash. Good, cheesy, poorly-regulated fun. :D

I figured the peanut butter pretzels went with the All-American (aside from the Okapi) theme. Hmm, speaking of: have you ever tried "circus peanuts?" I have an idea for next year's care package. :p

That's interesting about the token r8shell :) Yes, we have them much the same here, though I've not been to one for years. They used to give out goldfish in plastic bags, as prizes, when I was a kid, and were notorious for bashing the sights on the air-guns! :D No, I've never tried circus peanuts! When I was a kid, potato chips ('potato crisps' here) came unflavoured, and you had to hunt through to find the small blue twist of salt! :D

So deserving you are Jack, that Karma thing does work and you my friend have TONS of Karma due you:thumbup:

Way to go Rachel, another wonderful gesture on your end:cool:

Good on ya, Rachel!! Nice bunch of prezzies for a deserving person!

But the PB Pretzels are the best!!
:D

Well done R8shell! And well received Jack! :D As to your "tastes" sir, with so many wonderful posts, I don't think your likes are all too impenetrable-nice, or not so nice, old knives. Knives that maybe speak to a different time or place. Good on all indeed. :D
Thanks, Neal

So many great knives and discussions within this forum, which seems only to be equaled by the genuine camaraderie. Good place, good people.

Congratulations, Jack! Those look like some wonderful gifts from r8shell!
A big hand, pat on the back, and three cheers, Rachel, for your thoughtful generosity!!:cool::thumbup:
Now you've got me thinking about Klein work knives and Okapis again, after they dropped off my radar for a while!

R8shell's one of the good guys, her knowledge of traditional knives and patterns, not to mention her collection and photography skills always blew me away, rare to see a guy with her dedication and knowledge let alone a woman. Any of you old timers remember ashes? She used to have a family who was in the sharpening business, had a fallin' out with them, moved and never came back to bfc, unless she's here under another name deplume. ;)

Thanks guys :o :)

I am in total agreement about r8shell, definitely one of our best :)
