More than I expected...one sour note

I've been back for a couple of days (am heading out again tomorrow) but have finally seen for myself these khukuries that I've heard so much about. Nothing but very positive impressions on all of them. The best way I can describe them is being built the way high quality hand tools used to be built--as well as they can be, and not just good enough to get by. It's the happiest money I've spent in awhile. And, just to clarify this post's title, I was expecting them to be really nice, it's just that they are even nicer.

It's been a fun couple of days, soured greatly right at the end by the fact that my truck was broken into this afternoon while some friends and I were at a bar. Among the things stolen was a knife I had bought for my Dad's birthday, and one of the khuks that I was going to send to a friend. Both were in boxes ready to be shipped, and I'm sure were a BIG surprise to whoever it was. One thing makes me smile, and that's imagining this person being really really careless with the knives. I'd love one of them to take a chunk out of 'em. I guess I should be glad the truck wasn't gone.

Anyway, the point that's of value here is that I'm a total HI convert, and more models will find my door, as soon as funds permit. When the opportunity comes for me to swing them at something, I'll write some individual reviews.

 thieves and villains.

Glad you like your khuks though. Does your insurance cover the theft of the goodies?

Karma will nail the SOB(s), hopefully with a khuk through the foot.  Theives really yank my chain. Great to hear that you've discovered HI though, it's always nice to see a new HIKV carrier :D .

Report the theft to the Police/Sherrif's Dept. How many could there be of them locally? Real Nepali khuks. With Devanagari letters saying hee ee, and makers marks, dimensions, bolsters with japanese style, etc.

That ought to stick in any cop's mind.

Oh, I reported it. In fact, I made sure not to touch anything. When police arrived, we found out there was another car that had been looted. I was surprised that they actually pulled out the fingerprinting stuff, though they only dusted the window of the other car. If I heard correctly someone said there was a handprint on it. Not really sure I was following it though, was just trying to stay out of the way. Insurance will take care of my cd changer, as it's part of the vehicle. As for the loose items of mine (and a friends stuff that was there also) I'm afraid there's nobody to gripe to.
Wish I'd mailed the knives before meeting up with people
Such is life. If there are any updates, I'll post them.

Edited to add: I gave a full list of what was gone. The thing is I doubt they'll try to sell the knives. Probably just keep them.

Welcome to the land of HIKV! Hope the cops find your khuk. They should stand out. Only one HI!

I just keep mine hanginn from the rear-view mirror. No one seems to wanna risk dealing with the owner, so it it still there. (kidding..):)

With any luck, the thieves will unsheath a blade with their fingers holding on the wrong way.;)

..and the 'high' life ones aren't any better.

These blades are still blessed, aren't they? With any luck nothing but bad for the thieves will come out of this.

Perhaps a thief will break into one of their trailers, and when discovered, a fight breaks out with one or both injured or dead- by the khukuri laying on the sofa.

Oh munk, don't even say that!!!

This is a siru...can you imagine how hard it'd be to get blood out of little fullers without messing up the little inlays?!
;)

oddly enough, if you have Renter's insurance or Homeowner's insurance, the theft May be covered...subject (perhaps, not sure) to a deductible.

An inquiry can't hurt.

Ferrous: I've always wanted to hang a gun rack in my truck's rear window and stick a coule swords or a sword and battel axe in it instead. To go along with my "Countesy is Contagious" bumper sticker in the rear window behind the driver. Next to the NRA Endowment member sticker.

You have enough hardware. On the convention video you tapped your cane on the ground. It sounded like it weighed 25 pounds. :)

Ferrous Wheel,
My oldest sister is one helluva seamstress. Send me measurements for the one you want and I'll have her make you some pink fuzzy sheaths to hang those khuks with. Many thanks to everyone for the mutual feelings of violence. :)

....I'd forgotten Rusty was involved wih Killer Canes.

Hey, Rusty, Yvsa; anyone know anything about Diamond Willow?

My little Bro isn't the only one involved wih Killer Canes!!!!
I have a Combat Cane by Canemasters, solid hickory heart with a quad grip, shark's tooth edge, snake head and ruby colored snake eyes.:D

About the Diamond Willow: I know that I really love it!!!!
And always have!!!!:D
It also makes some damned beautiful furniture!!!! :D

Since I'm a Flute Carrier it's required for me to have a Flute with me at all times, or at least very close by.
With that in mind, and me getting looked at funny in some places carrying a buckskin or elkskin Flute bag, I made myself a walking stick out of a really nice piece of Oklahoma River Cane about 1 1/8" in diameter or so.
It has the joints far enough apart that I was able to make a Flute out of the top joint.
I bought some round wood balls about 2" in diameter at Hobby Lobby and drilled one out to fit a 7/8" diameter dowel and glued that in the drilled ball and the end of the river cane, then drilled a 1/4" hole through the ball and dowel so the Flute could be
played.
The round wood ball is much easier on the hand than the raw edge of the river cane and also prevents the cane from cracking with the torque I put on it at times, makes a good head rapper to if need be.;)
The bottom end has a cane tip on it to prevent the cane from cracking as well as not being super slick on hard surfaces.
The river cane Flute-walking stick is about 5 foot over all and makes a good leaning post when I tire.:)
When I had the surgery on my foot I found it easier to walk with the Canemasters cane and also discovered that I walk more upright with it as well.
I bought one of the little Kestrel Flutes from High Spirit Flutes some time back and it's small enough to carry around without being to conspicuous so everything worked out well and I'm now back to my Flute-Walking Stick.:D
When Barb gets a Flute bag made for the Kestrel* Flute I may very well go back to my Combat Cane.
It is very comforting and reassuring to walk with. :D

Edit:
Had to change the name of the little Flute to Kestrel from Sparrow Hawk.
I have five Flutes, maybe six, from Odel and it's sometimes hard for me to remember which is which or just how many of his I do have.
