So as of lately there has been quite a few threads on the Umnumzaan. There is not much more I can say that hasn't already been said about this fantastic folder. Though I found this a bit interesting as I know this particular one is highly sought after. I've been on the hunt for a regular Umnumzaan(4 pronged large pivot) when I found out that the Chris went to the Sebenza 25 allen wrench version. Not that I think the new one is bad or anything. I just feel it takes a little away from what the orignal version is. I also like the fact that there is a second larger part of the 4 pronged pivot that rests in the frame. Double secure if you will. So back to my story...
Seeing that the old versions were getting snagged up, I went on a hunt, got lucky and got the last ones from PlazaCutlery. I put it on lay-away and was secure in that. It had the lock stabilizer which I didn't have a problem with, even though I prefer the non-stabilizer version. In the meantime I was cruising eBay and came across the Wilson Combat, Startac version. Had to have it! I've always liked this handle better anyhow, just didn't think there were any around. I contacted the seller, and he was kind enough to sell it to me outside of eBay as he had several in stock. Well, I got to talking to him about the pivot changes made, and discovered that he was unaware of this. No biggie right? As long as MINE was the old version. lol. So later that day he txt's me to say oops, the ones he has all have the new pivot. Damn!
Problem solved. He was kind of upset with Wilson not telling him of the change and wanted a "fix" if possible. The Wilson Combat shop started digging around and came up with the last 5 Startac's with the old pivot. Good news for me right? Well it gets even better... So Wilson drop ships them to my dealer and overnights them(I got 2, one for me, and my bud wanted one as well) to me. I'm pumped just to have one of these awesome folders let alone with the original pivot. So I open the first box to examine it. Perfect of course, then open the second box and start to check it out. After about 3 minutes, no kidding, 3 minutes, I'm like hey, this one doesn't have a lock stabilizer. Frickin sweet! My dream knife!
I don't know how Wilson had this one laying around because I know people we calling them to get this version when the new stabilizer started coming out a while back. Funny that they were dated July 18th and July 24, 2012. Must have really been buried in the back room or something. Anyhow I'm happy to report that my friend really likes his, even with bar stop, and I couldn't be happier with mine. I just ordered a custom Vess sheath for mine. Should be here in about a week or so.
Sorry for the poor phone pix, but here ya go!
