So as of lately there has been quite a few threads on the Umnumzaan. There is not much more I can say that hasn't already been said about this fantastic folder. Though I found this a bit interesting as I know this particular one is highly sought after. I've been on the hunt for a regular Umnumzaan(4 pronged large pivot) when I found out that the Chris went to the Sebenza 25 allen wrench version. Not that I think the new one is bad or anything. I just feel it takes a little away from what the orignal version is. I also like the fact that there is a second larger part of the 4 pronged pivot that rests in the frame. Double secure if you will. So back to my story...

Seeing that the old versions were getting snagged up, I went on a hunt, got lucky and got the last ones from PlazaCutlery. I put it on lay-away and was secure in that. It had the lock stabilizer which I didn't have a problem with, even though I prefer the non-stabilizer version. In the meantime I was cruising eBay and came across the Wilson Combat, Startac version. Had to have it! I've always liked this handle better anyhow, just didn't think there were any around. I contacted the seller, and he was kind enough to sell it to me outside of eBay as he had several in stock. Well, I got to talking to him about the pivot changes made, and discovered that he was unaware of this. No biggie right? As long as MINE was the old version. lol. So later that day he txt's me to say oops, the ones he has all have the new pivot. Damn!

Problem solved. He was kind of upset with Wilson not telling him of the change and wanted a "fix" if possible. The Wilson Combat shop started digging around and came up with the last 5 Startac's with the old pivot. Good news for me right? Well it gets even better... So Wilson drop ships them to my dealer and overnights them(I got 2, one for me, and my bud wanted one as well) to me. I'm pumped just to have one of these awesome folders let alone with the original pivot. So I open the first box to examine it. Perfect of course, then open the second box and start to check it out. After about 3 minutes, no kidding, 3 minutes, I'm like hey, this one doesn't have a lock stabilizer. Frickin sweet! My dream knife!

I don't know how Wilson had this one laying around because I know people we calling them to get this version when the new stabilizer started coming out a while back. Funny that they were dated July 18th and July 24, 2012. Must have really been buried in the back room or something. Anyhow I'm happy to report that my friend really likes his, even with bar stop, and I couldn't be happier with mine. I just ordered a custom Vess sheath for mine. Should be here in about a week or so.

Sorry for the poor phone pix, but here ya go!

Good pics of my new knife, but yours is ugly ;D

Thanks for getting this one for me Bro, I'm really kicking around benching the old Tanto Umnum and starting to edc this one instead.
As much as I'd prefer not to have the over travel stop it really isn't bothering me at all, neither is the regular blade shape even though I'm used to the old Tanto.

I have to figure out how to post pics so that I can add to this thread some images of my set of Zaan's

Pretty sweet when things work out in your favor!

Huh, just noticed yours has the new style jimping as well as no lock stop. Weird.

I thought the lock stop was out way before the new jimping.

Crk must have had a few non lock stop slabs laying around.

Wait, so they're both from 2012 and the non-LBS one is also made in July? But how can this be? The LBS came out way before July, I think back in 2011? And I have a Startac Zaan from April 2012 with LBS? Mine is an older Startac Zaan than yours and has the LBS? I wonder if CRK just had an extra locking side laying around from a much earlier Startac run and decided to use it randomly even though they don't make em without the LBS anymore. Tooooo weird.

Blackend, can you help me get a s35v, non lbs, old pivot umnumzaan too?

I bought anothoer one last week, but all the bigger dealers were out and I got the last one at a smaller dealer. Lots of dealers said "oh, I sold the last one last week" or something similar. What I did was to get the CRK dealer list up on my screen and just start dialing until I found one. Someone may have had contact with a dealer who had more than one left and maybe they can post or PM you with a lead. There are very few left out there with dealers.

Hey guys. Thanks for the comments. Weird I know. Like I said I was just as surprised. No LBS and new jimping.

I can't say for sure what my dealer has left in stock, but I know he had 5 come in. He may still have 1 or two with no LBS. Check out www.rockmountaintactical.com

1Abominable1.... No sweat my brother! SWAP THOSE BLADES!

RiverRat... BTW, congrats on you new snags bro. Post some pix of those bad boys when they're in!

I really love these startac Zanns! They take the Zann to next level IMO.

Beautiful pictures btw.

I think It's gonna be a toss up between the 25 or the startac Zaan for me this year.

Definitely some hard, soul wrenching decisions to come. :(:D

Thanks bub! When I get all three together I most certainly will post some pics:thumbup:

I didn't think we had a knife store that carried any of upper end knives around here, until yesterday. I was able to touch and foundle the small and large sebenza's and fondle the older pivot style zann. The CR knives are everything I've read about, pictures on BF don't really compair to seeing them in person. :) FYI the shop owner said he had a couple of the older pivot styles in stock. Edit- I'm talking about the original zann's not the star versions, sorry.

That's cool! Better still if they don't have the LBS system!

Blackend- I'd have to call the guy that had them and ask if they had the LBS? I can't remember anything other than WOW!!! I rode my bike home day dreaming of these beauties....couldn't deside if I wanted the zann or the sebenza, by the time I made it home, I'll thought I'd just have to get one of each. LOL

Not bad to be in ur shoes right now! The Sebenza 21 does differ suggnificanty from the Umnum, so you will enjoy the benifits of both!

Mine just got in from WC today with the new jimping, lock stop, and old pivot as well. Born on the same as yours too.
