More uses for my Khuks

This weekend I had to do some routine maintenance around the house, and again found that these knives are definitely worth having around. I had to re-paint the porch railing, which involved removal of the old chipping and peeling paint. Rather than mess with an old flimsy utility razor or the like, I reached for an 18" Kumar Kobra

! The Kobra did a great job getting rid of the unwanted paint, and, while scraping, I found a rotted upright that I just HAD to remove

. Funny how you're looking for something to demolish when a Khuk is in hand!
My karda and chakma also see regular use as well. I was framing some pictures yesterday, and needed to set the framers points into the back of the frame to secure the picture/glass combo, and the karda from my AK worked just right.
Justifying the Bowie to my wife has been a little more difficult than the Khuks. I use it more for inside stuff (kitchen use, etc.) but it hasn't seen a whole lot of action recently. Yesterday, I was repairing some wallpaper, and putting up some plastic corner guards to protect the wallpaper. The Bowie worked great for trimming the paper, and "stuffing" it under the trim. It also worked well to cut the plastic corner guards. I just put the guard along the edge of my cutting board, placed the knife on top of it, the whacked the spine of the knife with another cutting board. The Bowie didn't even blink at this, not even suffering a mar to the spine. My wife laughed at me cutting wallpaper with an almost 3 pound knife, but hey, why not?

Take it easy guys, sorry for the rambling...

Thanks for the interesting story! We just moved into a new house and my khuks have been very usefull here as well. Also, my brother and neighbors seem to have alot of things to do that just "have to" have a khuk to do them
smile.gif
funny how that happens after they hold and use one just once!

Amazing how one week im complaining about having to do yard work, then when i get a khuk i look for excuses to do yard work. One advantage of the dreaded hikv,it cures laziness

Rob,

Take a look at the Hanuman pictures. Imagine what you can do with one of those.

I like Cliff Stamp's use the best:

Point the khukuri at someone and tell them what to do.

Strikes me a khukuri is the perfect tool for scraping porch railings, with its concave and convex curves to match whatever shape you're scraping.

Bill -- next time you try to send a khukuri to Japan label the package "paint scraper."

P.S. On second thought -- just label it "scraper." If you label it "paint scraper" and they look at it they might not believe you, but if it's just a "scraper" ... who's to say it isn't? Surely it could be designed to scrape something ... maybe not paint, but something....

There really isnt much need to 'hide' the truth.A khukuri for the most part is a tool, most people who buy them will use them as tools. While alot of people as well as myself may use them as a weapon if the need arises,it will much more likely be used to remove that old tree stump in the backyard. So 'garden tool' is a very honest way to describe it

I had to ship a Malay keris recently and i listed it with UPS as 'malaysian art' I think that is a pretty honest description

Also uncle has started trouble with alot of forumites by mentioning this James Bond Khuk.He must have detected low levels of HIKV and decided to spread the disease a little.

I'll gladly pay you tuesday, for a khukri today.

Robert,
I agree about Bill increasing the dosage of HIKV,I'm satisfied with the K's i
have.Maybe there's degrees of HIKV!I start getting the shakes when i hear the word "Karma" & he says he found something with " my name " on it!

We have certainly had our problems with Japanese customs as forumite Wrongfriend can tell us from first hand experience. I think we had to ship 3 times to achieve one success. His 20 inch AK has more miles on it than any khukuri in the world.

About all I can say about the Bond khukuri is that it is not gadget oriented but more in keeping with "Queen and country." I am still not sure we can get it done but the attempt is being made.

Hmmm... Queen and country? Did I mention that the L in my initials RLS stands for Leon?

Hey guys,
One more use to add to my list. Tonight we were doing History (we home school our oldest two), and makeing "clay tablets" with hieroglyphs on them (AKA peanut-butter cookie dough with chicken scratching on it...) Anyway, we had to leave it for a while, so I put the whole shootin' match in the oven (not turned on of course!). So the cookie sheet with the "tablets", the bowl with the rest of the batter, and mixing spoon were waiting in the oven till we could finish. So we eat supper, then, I figure "Hey, I'll pre-heat the oven so that we can bake the cookies!!! Guess what? Yup, forgot to get the bowl, etc. out of the oven first!!! About five minutes later, the whole house is filled with horrible fumes from the melting plastic from the mixing bowl (ROTFL)!!! So where does the Khuk come in you ask? I used my AK Bowie to scrape/chisel the remaining 'blobs' of melted bowl off of the oven racks!!!!! You know, there must be easier, and less smelly ways to justify HIKV

One: destroy kitchen

Two: scrape off messed ups from oven

And we can do cooking, maybe.
