Yup,I was surprised to see these guys poping up behind the shop where I work, but considering where they are located I decided not to eat 'em fearing an industrial disease.:barf:
We're too close to the Duwamish River & the Transfer Station in South Seattle. Not to mention Highway 509 just over the fence.(South Park neighborhood)

I haven't found any this big in my usual hunting grounds on the East slopes of the Cascades so I was amazed at how big they are & how early they came up.I usually find them in my camping area in mid may through early june.

Here's the bigger ones posing with my work knife, the JK XL Friction Folder.

These Cottonwoods were cut down last year & I believe the tree removal people brought the spores with them as I'd not seen any Morels back there in the 8 years I've worked there.
The First Ave Bridge is just up the highway for anyone that knows the Seattle area.

Lets see some Morel pics folks, surely someone else has harvested some this spring.?

Nice find! And yeah, it's bizarre where they turn up sometimes. Some friends of mine once harvested several pounds from a public campgroud in Utah where they were staying.

I'm hoping we're going to have a better morel season this year - last year was dismal.

Yeah, strange alright.I first found them at the trail head for Horsetail Falls on the Flathead Res. MT. when visiting my sister back in 95.

Those ARE nice Opinels! Did you carve and finish them yourself? Living in/near Seattle is surely humid, how do you keep the action of the knife working?

Morels are at least another month away over here in PA.

Thanks Scott,I did do the mods.
The handles were given a couple of coats of BLO after staining & I made sure to work it into the joints so hopefully the wood there soaked some up.They haven't tightened up on me yet anyhoo.
And Seattle isn't nearly as humid as other parts of the country.

Really nice Blacks!! Some are being found in Georgia also, but her in the upper mid West, thing are still to cold. Don't see morels til about mid May.Now you just need some fresh Trout to go with'em.

Right now --- a nice ""RARE"" 16oz Porterhouse Steak on the Grill & about a dozen real nice sliced Morels on the Stove for supper and a baked Tatar W/Sour Cream and Butter and Chives plus some real young and tender Asparagus in Butter ---after that meal I could die and be a happy ole man.!**************

Now who is going to send me some Morels.?????????? Have I got a Knife for you.!!!!!!!!!!!!*** Oh -- yeah.*

Excellent find. Spring is charging forward here trying to make up a few weeks of lost time.
