I saw this posted in the makers for sale section couple weeks ago, and it instantly grabbed my attention. I let it linger for a few hours, hoping that someone would buy it and it would stop tempting me! But in the end, I jumped on it. The maker is Mitchell Shaw, and I believe this is the first knife that he sold on BF. Steel is 52100, 1/8" thick, blade is about 3 1/2" and it's just about 8" overall.
Last weekend it was pouring rain, but I still used it on some fireplace prep. This was some rock hard wood but I was still able to carve into it. Here's a blurry cell phone pic.

This weekend on the other hand, low 80's - So I had to get out. (Apologies to those still buried in snow)

The overall shape really appealed to me. I like the blade shape, sort of drop point mixed with a bit of wharncliffe. Very sharp and pointy, great for stuff like cutting moleskin patches. I also liked the shape and large size of the handle.

I have large hands and it's a great fit

Te tang is lightly tapered so it feels nice and light in hand

I always grab seepwillow branches to bring home for practicing hand drill fires. These were easily snap cut. Here you can also see the nice thumb scallops, very comfy in side grip.

I always have trouble showing in use shots. I don't know how mistwalker and bearthedog do it!

Clipper for size comparison

He's got a very nice stamp

And avatar pic on the other side. Not sure what it is, but it looks cool!

I am really impressed with his work, and this will not be my last Shaw Blade for sure

Happy Trails!
