I decided to give the Kochanski deadfall another try today but scaled down from the one I did yesterday........and it worked !

One thing I was doing wrong yesterday was having the trigger stick too thick, there is very little pressure on the trigger stick so keep it nice and light !

My set up was pretty rough today but I just wanted to prove the mechanism of the trap.

I'd used my Breeden Woody today, this made short work of my chopping and trimming !

As I was leaving the area I came across a flat rock, these are uncommon round here so I had to take advantage and make a quick fig 4 trap !

Started with some splitting using my Breeden !

Very smart.

Glad you had success with the new trap.

Do you ever get out, are you allowed, to take any 'game' or other critters?

The hunting and trapping laws over here are very complicated as in most places. Rabbits are an invasive species over here and as such are a class 'C' animal which means you can hunt as many as you like all year round. However there are still restrictions on where you can hunt them and I'd think primitive trapping would still be frowned upon !

Yes, I understood that was the case. We have the same issues here with Rabbits, they are a pest species, but likewise, these more traditional forms of trapping would probably not be deemed humane or legal. Sadly I moved away from my permissions, and depiste beign over run with bunnies at work, I don't fancy eating anything thats grown up on or around a 150 year old fireworks manufacturing site.

Have you thought about persuing a licence at all? A man of your proficiency could surely put a little meat on the table if you could get a patch close to home.

Yeah I keep thinking about it more and more every year. Not sure if I would want to go the gun route or the Bow route. A work mate of mine has just gone up Island this week to try and bag an Elk with his bow......now that's a lot of meat !!!!

Don't wait too long. My bro was warning me that UK meat prices are set to rise. I think the foul weather we have had has seriously affected farmers growing fodder, hay etc. and the cost of feed will be reflected in the shops.

I just have the air rifle, I'm being coaxed into considering taking up something more powerful though. A friend is on stage two of his Deers Stalking Certification and he is keen to get me started.

That sure is a lot of meat. I hope he has success....and some to spare for his amigo ;)

Neat. I should crack open Mors book and do a bit more also. I'm sure that you must tie your dogs off when setting traps.
